Tuesday's Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

Not that many rumours today, not that much action either yet in the transfer window - for all clubs not just Villa!

The Express & Star say Villa will have to pay around 6m to sign Chelsea's Steve Sidwell. Reports suggested Villa would pay around 4 - 4.5million for the 25-year-old midfielder but with interest also from West Ham, Fulham, Everton, Manchester City, Blackburn, Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, the price will obviously go up! The report says Sidwell is surplus to requirements and his move is not dependent on a new manager coming in.

The same report says the future of supposed Villa (amongst a host of others) target Shaun Wright-Phillips is on hold until the new manager is appointed.

The E&S also repeat the links to both Newcastle winger James Milner and Spurs player Aaron Lennon.

The Star say Gareth Barry 'has made it clear he wants to quit Aston Villa'. Not according to him he hasn't he says he hasn't spoken to MON recently. Anyway, they go on to say we'll be getting Liverpool striker Peter Crouch as part of the deal.

The Liverpool Echo say Liverpool are about to increase their offer for Barry.

The Mirror claim West Brom are interested in taking Scott Carson on loan.

The Mirror also claim that Rangers have now joined the race to sign Villa striker Marlon Harewood, and another report suggests Hull City also want him.

Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is said to be interesting Aston Villa, Arsenal, Spurs and a host of other clubs that I got bored reading about.

No way, cause I just saw Ronaldinho taking a tour of Aston Hall...I heard Barcelona were going to offer him, deco and henry in a swap deal for Bouma. Haha. Maybe if we push it enough a rumour like that could appear in the Sun. Don't you love how the media twisted Barry's words so severely?

utter junk I would have Lennon and SWP, the rest inclusive of sidwell for 6m is a joke! 6m can buy you a decent international player, not a fringe man from a club team

some people talk some utter bollox, sidwell was the most saught after free transfer of last year and now he's some half wit squad player! how many people would get past ballack, lampard, essien and makelele? sidwell took us apart when he played and scored against us for reading 2 years ago. i' sure you'll start saying he's a good player when andy gray and jamie redknapp start telling you so.

We wont sign anyone untill the last day of the transfer window. When they do sign they will be well below expectations so I would just forget about it. I blame Fear for starting the link so early!!! Have we not learnt from the other O'Neil transfer windows?? Take the link down and post it after we actually sign someone - I cant take it anymore!!

Of course the press want Barry to move. An English international central midfielder who has been the driving force behind a team trying to push the top 4, moving to the team who finished 4th is massive news for lots of reasons. For a start it's 2 major English clubs and a major English player. Secondly it sends out all sorts of messages about just how big or small the gap between the top4 and the rest of the league really is. If Barry moves for the 14m that the papares suggest then the the top 4 team has won and taken our best player for less than he's worth. If he moves for 20m then the top 4 club has still won because their size and resources has allowed them to make us an offer we couldn't turn down. If we keep Barry and he announces his intention to stay with us then the gap isn't as big as it once was and finally the big 4 haven't got it all their own way. Whichever way ou look at it it's massive news for English papers and they'll continue to speculate and twist words until this drama is finally over. One thing i will say if MON is reading this is that if Barry moves for any less than 18m there will be some very angry Villa fans out there. Judging by the message boards, 18m or over and most will probably just about get over it in time. Personally i don't care how much money is offered. I think we should reject all offers just to show Liverpool that we're here to compete and we aren't going to be bullied in the market anymore. They can't have him and frankly they can **** off.

I am told that the "year end for contracts is 30th June, which means if your at a club on 1st July you get your "loyalty" bonus of several 100 K (depending on transfer fee, contract conditions) which is why nobody is moving at the moment, and certainly why Barry won't say he wants to leave until 2nd July! So, at the moment we don't need to worry all the clubs will be trying to do their deals and most will not happen until first week in July. How cynical is it that all season tickets have to be renewed by 30th June? To carry on watching we have to pay up before we know who's leaving, let alone who's coming in! Thats because the 10 million we pay in will all go on paying the "loyalty" bonuses. I won't take any interest until July, lets hope MON will finally pull off some major suprises and get us all excited about the new season.

The SWP link has been done to death, or maybe because I dont particularly rate the guy, or think he's what we need, it just seems that way. Brad Friedel I wonder, following the departure of Mark Hughes.

See Liverpool are supposedly interested in James Milner. We need to act fast there.
