HA! Maloney Baloney

Maloney Baloney!

According to the players agent, Shaun Maloney - rumoured in the press to be a target for Celtic, Rangers and Sunderland, is going nowhere.

John Halliwell, the 25-year-old striker's agent, said in the Daily Record:

'Martin O'Neill does rate him highly. The sooner Shaun settled down the better it was for all concerned and he is focused on winning his place back next season, which I am sure he will. He still has three years to go and there will be no problems whatsoever with Shaun and Villa.'

Adding, 'At this moment in time it is status quo, nothing has changed. When I tell you it is the truth, I promise it is the truth. It is that time of year when Shaun is linked with clubs and this is going to happen every transfer window. Other people keep telling me what is going on but I can tell you he isn't going anywhere.'

He also denies any contact at all from the Scottish giants.

The guys on Vital Celtic seem adament that they'd not want him back anyway after the way he left.

Now there's a man who knows which side his bread's buttered. Gareth Barry's agent should take a leaf out of John Halliwell's book. lol;)

I like Scottish football and have been on over half the grounds following it when I get the chance. English fans give a lot of unfair stick to the game north of the border - which at all levels has massively less resources than the English game. Nevertheless, that is as it is and it is not going to change - it is not a level playing field. Against that background the idea that Villa would come third inthe SPL at a push is way wide of the mark. In practise the players both Rangers and Celtic can attract are generally, with a couple of exceptions who end up moving on (such as Hudson) more of the standard of Wigan and Fulham - and that is where they would come in the Premier League with their current squads. Of course if they were in the Premier League they would be awash with dosh - and would then become huge clubs and part of the Big 6 or whatever you would want to call it. But donaldo is in dreamland if he thinks the current Rangers and Celtic team are better than a club who came 6th in the Premier League.

you obviously dont know feck all about scottish football like you say you do..who is hudson {dont you mean hutton }.And so your saying players like boruc{one of the best keepers in the world},nakamura who scored two against man u and would be a star for any team outside the top 4 in the premier league ,aiden mcgeady who is being linked with moves all over the place ...so your saying all these players are of wigan and fulham standards....i can honestly only name about 3 or 4 players from the current villa squad that i think are good enough for celtic ..and thats barry, young and davies ..and maybe mellberg at a push

We'd need a replacement in house before we even consider off-loading Maloney. We cant keep reducing the size of the squad. I've been disappointed in the guy to date. Few rare flashes of promise and ability, but overall I think that he's looked out of his depth.

Interesting that his agent says that MON rates him (Maloney). I'm starting to wonder if he really does, if he thinks he's actually up to premiership standard. In the latter part of the last campaign Shaun rarely got a look in, we didn't even get to see him on the bench.
