Villa Back In For Newcastle Winger Milner?

According to The People, Villa have made a 7million bid for Newcastle United midfielder James Milner.

The 22-year-old left sided midfielder/winger enjoyed a loan spell at Villa in the 2005/06 season making 33 appearances and scoring 3 goals. Martin O'Neill very nearly secured a permant move for the player before Freddie Shepherd recalled the player who was apparently on the way down to Villa Park to sign.

The report says Newcastle are holding out for more money and that Everton ar also interested although to be fair, I would think 7million is about right for the tough tackling Magpie? Other reports are suggesting that Kevin Keegan might be bashing heads with new owner Mike Ashley as the club are looking to trim 10million from their wage bill.

The paper says Newcastle want closer to 9million and that MON will give the club a couple of weeks before moving on to other winger options.

Personally I'd love to see Milner back, he showed more passion and desire whilst on loan to us than many of our permanent players, Barry aside. What do you reckon?

I'd take him back - hard worker with lots of talent. On Milner's top form there isn't too much between him and Bentley in my opinion. Also, he was at the club whilst DOL was in charge - imagine how much better he might be once MON has worked with him for a season.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh not the James Milner thread again we have 20 so far! Hard grafting lad but just hasn't got that final ball or shot in him , looked a stone blind cert at 16 to be in there with Rooney but has just not progressed and now stuggles for a place at Newcastle.

No Thanks. 7m is OTT. He is not the next level, and I hope we have better coming up through the ranks - or, if not, that we sign someone better. These days potential is usually 20 years and down to 16 years old. Milner may improve but he has been around about 6 years already and, as a winger, is hardly a great crosser of the ball. He is goodish - but goodish is not good enough if we want to move on up. Young was a great signing and another on like that would be acceptable! For 7m we hopefully could scout, spot and buy from the lower divisions or abroad someone who has more potential than Milner.

I personally think he's good enough now, i've seen him play at newcastle and been their best player on the park a few times. Even at 9m (which i think is too much) i'd still want to see him back at VP

Agree with The Usual Suspect - Milner's a top young English talent and MON would bring the best out of the lad.

Got a warm rush when I read this, feels right this time, and on Newcastle's form last year, how could anyone look good? I think Bentley is a touch overrated, and Ryan Giggs' final ball was pretty bad in his early years, practice and training can change a lot, and so can MON. I think there's every chance he could turn into the right sided Ashley.

I don't think it's particularly a case of MON working with him, more John Robertson who is a great coach and one of the best wingers to grace the game. Sign him up I say!

I think Milner has great potential. Lennon is quick But no end result, has no final ball IMO! Valencia is a good prospect, But I still like Milner, he's an old fashion direct winger. Not a show pony!!!

i have to agree that out of bentley, SWP and Milner Villa have more chance of signing Milner. I agree he did have passion when at villa but id still prefer one of the other two - Bentley for me - probably the most expensive option - but that says it all really - he is the best out of all three hence why he would be the most expensive. Have we heard in the press lately that SWP or Milner are the replacement for Beckham ... No ..... but if he goes anywhere i doubt it will be Villa ... Sadly..... Unless of course we can manage to talk Henry or Owen to come ... then maybe he would see our potential and follow suit

We need fast wingers, fit better in the team I belive. Milner is quiet fast I think. I would try and sign Milner and Lennon. but that is probably impossible..

Milner is the answer and all you doubters will learn, if we actually get him that is. I think he's top quality and as has been said by someone already, Bentley is overated, if we get Milner he'll put Bentley in his place and hopefully, Bentley will stop being such a mug and sort his face out. Agreed PTP, Bentley does play the Beckham ball but only once out of ten times and I play Pub league football with more consistant players. His ego makes Reo-Coker look shy.
