Steven Gerrard Taps Up Barry For Liverpool

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has again spoken about another clubs player and helped tap up the Villa skipper Gareth Barry.

Apparently Gerrard is 'desperate' for Barry to join him.

FOR GOD's SAKE SHOW SOME RESPECT Gerrard. And if you don't know what it means, LOOK IT UP.

Gerrard told Sky Sports:

'Gareth Barry is someone who will improve Liverpool. I know all about Gareth, I am good friends with him off the pitch and I am desperate for us to sign him. We can't be disrespectful to Villa. He is still their player and we will see what happens. Naturally, they are going to try and keep hold of him, and rightly so because he is one of their star men. He has been a fantastic servant for them over many years. But, from a biased point of view, I want Gareth Barry to become a Liverpool player. He is a good player. But I want Liverpool to be as strong as possible and Gareth Barry will certainly make us stronger.'

Adding, 'You talk about improving the team, the starting XI and the squad, and Gareth will certainly help Liverpool to become a better team. I am sure Gareth will find it hard to leave Villa,' added Gerrard. 'He has been fantastic for them but, in football, sometimes opportunities come along where you can better your career. I think Gareth is 27 now and he needs to play Champions League football. In my opinion, he needs that now.'

Totally out of order comments, I hope Villa report this rabble to every appropriate authority possible and hope they also make it clear that they will sell Barry to Liverpool over their dead bodies. I could see very little wrong with Liverpool bidding and us rejecting their pathetic offers but this pratt once again talking about another clubs contracted and highly respected player is out of order.

I'd rather see us give Gareth Barry to Birmingham City for nothing than let Liverpool bully us through the press like this. Disgraceful and disrespectful actions to say the very least.

Time for Villa to make it clear that Barry goes nowhere for anything under £20million, that might make that lot put up or shut up....hopefully the latter!

When Gareth Barry came out yesterday and told everyone that he wanted to leave it until after the Trinidad game. Then Stevie G comes out with this. Hardly what Barry requested was it? Im 50-50 on whether Barry will leave. I think that the messages he has received from people will take a key part in his decision plus his talks with Randy Lerner and King Mart. I can see the attraction of champions league football but Liverpool? Please come on, Liverpool finished 4th. 2 places off us. They have these strange dreams of winning the title and they are convinced they will do it every season. And they don't even come close to it. Liverpool are so far off Utd its unbelievable. Yes Liverpool have Torres and Gerrard but who else have they got that is really world world class? Man Utd have Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Giggs, Nani, Tevez, Rooney and more. Just shows the difference. My advice to Gareth Barry, don't join Liverpool, its not the right way to go. It seems foolish to join them at this point. And my advice to Aston Villa- Put the fingers up at Liverpool for the time being. Sit down with Gareth Barry, see what he wants to do. Offer him another year on his deal. Take it or leave it. If he wants to go and Liverpool stump up the cash then let him go. No point in keeping an unhappy player. Villa was here before Barry and we will be here after him. And all this is if Liverpool can even afford Barry. Please Gareth, make the right decision and stay with Villa. You don't want to be joining Liverpool Scally's. It won't further your career any more. Joining Man Utd, Chelsea and even Arsenal would but not Scally Army. Up the Villa.

And on Villa in the UEFA cup, I really want it to happen because I watched a lot of the competition this past year and the teams just love to play negative football. Its always enjoying to see a team other than us play football the way its supposed to be played. And the more I think about it, our two clubs approach is quite similar.

As far as I can tell Stevie G's right, he'd make a great partnership with Barry in the centre, and they're both at a time in their career when they need to be working under a top class manager and for a club that are firmly focussed on winning something, it's time to get silverware. That's why the Villa should bid £25m for Gerrard, he's clearly motivated by money and wants to play with Barry, and there's only one club that'll have a shout at winnning anything this season. Liverpool are clearly only a slightly better club than the Villa, the fact that they were elated at getting a draw last season at Anfield shows that much.

Losing Barry would be a blow if it happens, but even with Barry, Liverpool will still not be any closer to winning the league.

I am really beginning to get fed up with the whole Barry thing. I would like him to stay at Villa but if he wants to go, then, provided someone offers enough money for him then let him go. Anyone would think he is our only player, yes he is a very good player and was instrumental in us finishing 6th last season but Young and Laursen are more important to us than GB. i know those facts as well as anyone mate!while we are getting closer in terms of points,my main argument was that we are improving greatly as a squad and gradually accumalating players that can win us the league.every year rafas managed to shift some of the deadwood from the houllier era-diao,le tallec,baros,cisse,traore,kirkland etc and more recently kewell and riise while every summer we have added players of world class quality like alonso,reina ,agger,skrtel,mascherano,torres,babel who can win us the league along with the likes of gerrard and carra.i say CAN not WILL............i never said we were going to win the league.what i said was that this notion of a top 4 club dropping out of the big 4 is wished for by everyone else and every year it doesnt happen.and its certainly not going to happen in the next 2-3 years at least.As a celtic fan as well as a red i have huge respect for martin o'neill he has done a fantastic job and you are a club on the up.but in all fairness,saying that you are ready to overtake a team that was an own(away) goal from a 3rd champions league FINAL in 4 years is a bit naive....
