'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Fighting Spurs For Man City Shot Stopper

The bastion of all things football, well, the Daily Star anyway (!) say that Aston Villa are set to solve their goalkeeping shortage by bidding £8m for Manchester City's 21-year old Joe Hart.

According to the report we'll have to go head to head, or would we go toe to toe, I guess both clubs would need to decide the technicalities, with Tottenham Hotspur who are looking to off load Paul Robinson who it seems has also lost his place as England's No1.

The Star say Spurs manager Juande Ramos would offer Paul Robinson and £4million in cold hard readies. O'Neill would go for a cash deal which should strengthen our bargaining power!

The report says Hart fits the bill for the Villa chief – he’s young, English and widely rated as the country’s best prospect. All the signs are that he could be available given the turmoil at City and the fact that he’s holding out on a derisory new contract offer. Hart has been offered a new £10,000-a-week double-your-money deal, but that doesn’t match his meteoric rise through the ranks.

He currently has two years left on his contract was bought from Shrewsbury for £600 000, a fee that has now increased by £500 000 after he was brought into the England set up by Fabio Capello.

To have forced his way under Sven to the Citeh No1 spot and to have been noticed already for the England set up bodes very well. Lets hope this link is more than just hot air!

Hey the O/S have already gone into a frenzy over Hart being linked.
still skeggy
Him or Jaaskelinan with Guzan as cover would do for me!!
deano.avfc
Hart is nice and young, could be with us for years!
The Fear
i like the look of Guzan, made some nice little stops last night would be worth signing, not sure the price tag fits Hart considering the man city's season though.
Astonian Villan
Get to the back of th queue !!!

He could either be one of the greatest signings we ever make, or he could be a huge flop. I remember a one season wonder signing for Liverpool once by the name of Carson, four years later look at the state of him!!! I hope Hart is not destined for the same, especially if we fork out £8million for what could be a one season wonder. If Robbo is £4mil i might be more inclined to sign him.

£8m for this chump? is he any good?!
leelindsay
id rather the young peter schmeichel, kasper i think it is?
villabikes29
hart looks damn good to me. maybe not £8m good, but far better than kasper schmeichel. if we could get him for a tad less than £8m id bite thaksins arm off. spuds are interested too tho so i dont think we'll get him

Guzan looked excellent last night. Get him in NOW MON!
Adam Deuce
guzan needs to play in USA's next 2 freindlies to stand a chance of gretting a work permit
Astonian Villan
He looks the business but even if it didn't turn out that Hart is a good as he looks he could be, it would be a signing that would surely signal our intent as a club and could be pivotal in retaining Barry's services. See, I managed to turn this into an article about Barry :oP

Dream on guys... Hart is going nowhere! And don't believe everything you read about the guys earnings etc.!!!!
Impeccable
did you notice how the peterborough keeper was picked for england ahead of carson and robinson. what does that tell you!
bobbyfett
guzan looked all right yesterday
Poncho
Gabby, Ashley and GB need to get in his ear whilst in trinidad!!!

This story/rumour is a complete and utter non-starter. Ridiculous. A typical 'get people talking' media story, based on absolutely nothing.

There just aren't the quality keepers out there and available. I think people will be very disappointed in Guzan if he arrives, he's far, far from the finished article. Another Scott Carson.
