'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Youngsters Praised

Academy Director Bryan Jones has spoken of the 'great achievement' by Ciaran Clark becoming the U-19 England captain.

The 18-year-old central defender Clark also forced his way into Kevin MacDonald's reserve side who lifted the title last season. Jones told the official site: 'It's possibly something we haven't pushed as much as we should have done. But to be captain of England at any age group is a great achievement. Ciaran can feel particularly pleased with his progress over the last season. He's got a tremendous attitude. When he broke his leg in his last year at school, it was a horrendous break. Watching his first game back after recovery, which was a long process, the commitment of the boy to win the ball was just unbelievable. The courage he showed just epitomised what a lot of these young players have got.'

Jones has also spoken of Barry Bannan who was named the Player of the Tournament in the Hong Kong International Soccer Sevens. 'He was outstanding. People keep saying to me he's a bit small, well, if that's small, I'll take him every time. He was absolutely magnificent.'

Good to see the academy conveyor belt of talent continues!

More players for MON to sell soon then! Be great to see some push on though.

I do like the look of Ciaran Clark. He's been very much something of an unsung hero, but he definitely has all the credentials to become a very decent footballer.
