Tuesday's Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

Tuesday's Aston Villa Transfer Rumours

When the transfer rumours go quiet, we often sneak in and get a player and lets face it, for the fact the window is now open, the papers seem to be struggling for any really juicy links to Villa!

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are set to bid £4million for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne. They say that Villa are looking to bolster the defence following Olof Mellberg's departure to Juventus and the fact Curtis Davies is out until at least October due to an Achilles injury. The Republic of Ireland centre-back is the first Manchester City player to win player of the season award four times.

The Daily Mail also repeat the links to both Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster who was linked last week as a possible loan.

On the gossip sites it is claimed that Villa are looking at 21-year-old Charleroi striker Habib Habibou who is on loan at Steaua Bucharest.

Meanwhile other papers are reporting that midfielder David Bentley has turned down a new contract offer at Blackburn with Tottenham and Chelsea looking at £15million bids. Villa were also recently linked.

And that so far today is all the gossip that I can find. Boring eh?! Maybe the journalists are on holiday so temporary staff are making up the stories instead!

Saurat that may be true but the two people that have been signed - Bosingwa and Modric I would have LOVED to see at Villa. Both exactly the type of players we would need - a RB who is good going forward and a creative Merson-type attacking midfielder.

guess it shows how close M'ON keeps his cards to his chest, not even the press are able to get a sniff of whats going on behind the scenes

i would have loved to see modric and bosingnwa join villa but the collective transfer fees were near to £35m which wouldn't leave much for the remaining 6 players we would still need. Also, the window doesn't officially open until 1st of July and given the Euros this summer it will probably be fairly quiet until at least the end of june. It's going to a long and stressful month with probably very little activity. Hopefully some players like Bentley and van der vaart will follow the frustration

on our interest surrounding Werder Bremen: it may be possible we are looking at swedish forward Marcus Rosenberg and not the others that have been mentioned - Diego, etc...

We need quality in numbers. Hopefully we are a good ways down the road with regards to completing the signings of two or three players, we sure dont want to leave things until the death again.
