Friday's Villa Transfer Rumours + Bid Rejected?

According to the Daily Star today, Bolton and Villa are in a war.... (huh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing, say it again)... sorry... for Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson who apparently is being shipped out of White Hart Lane for a fee of around £5million. Hmmm, Villa or Bolton, wonder which he'll choose?

The Sun say that Liverpool have upped their offer by £2million to £12m for Gareth Barry. Reports elsewhere say that Villa won't accept any less than £16million, which is the price that Liverpool have put on their midfielder Alonso. They also price Peter Crouch at £15million and he only has one year left on his contract, so Rafa mini me Tom Jones look-alike, put that in your pipe and smoke it! The £12m bid, according to the report, has been rejected immediately. The report goes on to say that Barry has been offered £70 000 a week by Villa but that Barry has set his heart on Champions League football. What, sitting on the bench for Liverpool whilst they play CL football with their mad rotation system?

Some reports are saying that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is playing hardball over the Scott Carson fee. Err, yes... and? Liverpool are more than entitled to price the goalkeeper at £10million if they wish. Villa - nor anyone else unless they are totally mad will pay that but that is a decision for the Anfield lot and them alone. Although with even the goalkeeper himself admitting he is over priced and that he is still young and has lots to learn, you do have to wonder at a £10million valuation.

Rafa on the price tag for Carson in the Liverpool Echo, Echo, Echo: 'It is a matter between the clubs. We agreed the fee with Aston Villa last year. The fee has been there for one season so to talk about the fee now is not correct.' Adding 'We agreed with Martin O'Neill and that was the situation.'

Fair enough, we won't buy him at that they won't sell him for less, move on. It is a load of rubbish to say Liverpool are playing hardball or that Carson is too expensive for Villa in the headlines of other reports though. The fact of the matter - and the player agrees - he is over priced. I'm not totally sure he is worth half that in truth, but then again, what the hell do I know!!!! Please don't answer that, I do have feelings you know!

Poor Scotty Carson. He's a decent bloke from what I can tell. But there he is caught up between the ego-war between Villa and Liverpool. He made that mistake for England, and has never really got back on track. I'm sure he'll mature into a great keeper, but I don't think he's the one to do the job that we need someone to do NOW. I'd have him as a number 2, but he doesn't want that otehrwise he'd've stayed at Liverpool. Good luck Mr Carson. Thanks.

Robbo's had a bad season, but if you can get him back on track, he's a good keeper. just look at 'calamity james' gone from being berated by the nation to being the best keeper in the prem. for 5m, i'd take him.

you right robbo can be a good keeper and he is only 28,keepers peak in their 30's but I think he needs to start out fresh and move to a new club..

totally agree bobby + splash. Maybe he has gone stale but he is a good keeper, you don't get to be England No1 for no reason! A fresh challenge could get him back on the right path!

Benitez is making me laugh, he overprices his own players then offers a pittance for ours. Surely if he wants Barry to replace Alonso, he is implying that Barry is a better player. How then, can Alonso be priced 4m higher than Barry. I'm not even going to go into the price of Carson and Crouch. The guy needs a reality check.

even if Carson had an awful season. and i'm one that hated him the most. I still think he could be a good signing

If anyone can make a player play MON is the man, how well he can get the keeper to perform remains to be seen but when carson can get a start for England under him it must show great potential for Robbo

I'd have to disagree with Faroe_villa_rules.......................i hate Carson most. I can't believe we are still talking about this guy. It's getting obvious MON doesn't want him or we would have tied up the deal before now. Let's move on and get a keeper that will do us pround for THIS COMING season. We can't afford to blood someone through the system and deveop them. Season 08/09 is a very big season for AVFC and we need a rock of a goal keeper as a base to build from.

I am really fearful about the keepers we are linked with as i believe a better keeper than carson would have got us into 5th spot ...scott is decent but not good enough yet by a long chalk and robinson should never wear a villa shirt ...hopefully our scouting system will throw up a better keeper than londonpool or spurs cast offs if there not good enough for them then there not good enough for us

Robinson looks shaky even in interviews and his confidence is shot. If anyone could sort him out, MON is the man although I still don't want him at VP. J P, you said that you don't get to be England keeper for no reason. Just wondering what reason Carson was given the cap for? ;-D

Taylor could be a good first choice in a year or two. So why not get Foster for a one year loan? We took Carson on a year loan (with option to buy for 10mn) because there were no really great 'keeprs available then. This year we've got Cudicini/Jaaskelainen/Foster/Boruc and others apparently available - so what are we waiting for?

let's steal Coupet from Lyon. He wants out and Tottenham want him. Nothing would be better than taking what Tottenham want.

No to Carson, no to Robinson. Two keepers who simply aren't good enough. As for Gareth, we have to hold out for 15 or 16m, not a penny less, and no Rafa, no make-weights as part of the deal. You can keep your Crouch's, Pennants, Carsons etc, we dont want or need them. I believe Gareth will go, I'll be totally shocked if he doesn't, but we have to ensure we get the going rate for him. A 27 year old current England international, our club captain, two years left on his contract. Show us your money Rafa boy, or please just disappear.

GB will go, but at 16M, he is undervalued - the club captain and England international, at least 19M. As for Manuel's valuations of Crouch, Carson and Alonso - send for the boys with the white coats!

villan444, I meant England No1 regularly. Carson was in there for a stupid mistake by the ex manager and boy oh boy did we pay for it! I must admit I was pleased when they put him in, but as he walked out he looked like a rabit in the headlights and hindsight being a great thing, couldn't help but wonder why the best keeper, David James, wasn't there. I'm sure James was wondering the same thing. There again, I was gutted when we got rid of James, he should still be between our sticks!
