Tuesday's Villa Transfer Gossip

Tuesday's Villa Transfer Gossip

Quite day on the gossip front today. We have the Birmingham Mail saying that Villa are close to signing Steve Sidwell. Ok, not a new one that, it was covered by many yesterday, including Vital Villa asking a Chelsea fans opinion: Chelsea Fan's Opinion On Villa's Sidwell Link

However they claim the 25-year-old is close to signing for a more reasonable £4.5million fee and that he will take a massive cut (50%) in his current earnings, albeit with a nice signing on fee as a tempter to make the move. They also say that Sidwell would be brought in to play WITH Gareth Barry not instead of.

Rumour rating: At that price, more likely I'd say!

The Independent have repeated the link claiming that Villa are trying to lure Barcelona striker and former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. However they say the 30-year-old hot shot has also been offered around £5.2m a year to join the Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders. Come on Henry, don't do a Beckham and retire from serious football, not yet.

Rumour rating: We can but dream, would put more bums on seats and be a great statement of intent.

Another often reported target, Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, has ruled out a move to Villa, Newcastle, Manchester City or anywhere else for that matter saying he intends to stay at Chelsea and see out his contract. On the sort of wages he gets, can't say I blame him really! 'I will definitely be at Chelsea next season. Speculation has been like this since I was at Manchester City. It was going on for seven years before I left. Then I came to Chelsea and speculation has been going on for my whole time here and I have still not left. I have signed a contract and I'm here to see it out.' His deal runs out in 2010.

For that sort of money, I'd snap up Sidwell, far more sensible !

Yeah get in Sidwell, competition for places, it will help Reo-Coker raise his game. Henry, this would be superb and Barry would begging us to keep him. That is the signing that will convince our captain to stay, sign him now on a two year deal. Then he can move to MLS or Dubai for the big pay out when he in his mid-30s.

anyone think Sidwell is a Barry replacement? Been linked to Ben Foster as well today he is a better prospect than Carson

i think we'll get Sidwell, which is a good thing. Henry keeps popping up, but maybe this is a longshot. not really bothered about SWP.

Would love to see Henry at VP but I think this is more likely to be his agent trying to drum up interest and he'll end up at a London club to return to his family. Always liked Sidwell at Reading and agree with young_jonah, it would provide competition to NRC which is no bad thing. What happened to the rumours about Cudicini? Experienced Premiership GK who was very good before the arrival of Cech.

Henry wants to be near the kids in London, none of the Clubs there would be of decent enough calibre (West Ham) or they have more than enough already upfront, so we're a decent option and family comes first, I could see this happening if MON chased him now

If Berbatov went to Manure, Henry would be a more than ample replacement. Also, if Drogba goes off to rejoin Jose at Milan, Chelsea will be looking for a big-name replacement.

He would never come to us. Arsenal are the only team with a chance to get him and I think when he leaves Barca in a few years he'll go back there.

I think Sidwell is as good as a done deal, but I just can't see Henry...I wonder if he would be interested in the 'project' though...bit of a long shot but you never know!!
