Ok, plenty in the papers today, 75% or more is probably total rot, but hey, I love the transfer rumours!

First off, the News of the World is confident we have two players incoming in done deals.

They claim that Villa have bid £7million for Chelsea and former Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell. Villa were in the hunt for him before Chelsea bid last time and since then he has spent most of his time warming their bench. The report suggests this is a done deal.

Their other claim is that Villa are back in the hunt for 23-year-old Arsenal right-back (who has also played at left-back) Justin Hoyte. We apparently tried for him last season but couldn't prize him away from the Gunners at the time.

Both rumour ratings? Fairly high I'd think. MON has a proven track record of wanting young British talent and obviously we desperately need a right-back and Hoyte needs to be playing regular first team football in order to push for an England place.

The News of the World also suggests that supposed Villa target (mentioned in swap deals for Barry at one point) John Arne Riise will move abroad, Schalke being a possible destination.

The Sunday Mercury have a wild claim here. They say we are after former Arsenal legend and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry. Other reports suggest he might join the Major League Soccer for mega money.

Rumour rating: Would be worth a punt but I just can't see it myself!

The Daily Star claim that Liverpool are prepared to drop the price for goalkeeper Scott Carson to a price in the region of £6million. They say that at that price, 'Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to pounce.'

Rumour rating: Possible, we do need two keepers afterall and he is a young keeper who will get better over time, as he himself has admitted.

The Daily Star also repeat the rumour that Villa are interested in Portsmouth midfielder Pedro Mendes who is apparently going to be available in a 'cut-price deal'.

In other tittle tattle, the NofW say Liverpool will go for Boro midfielder Stewart Downing if they can't get Gareth Barry. Barry is apparently still their main target but a price tag of £18million is putting them off.

And finally, the Sunday Mirror say that Nicolas Anelka might be ditched by Chelsea. Hmmmm, I wonder!

Chelsea got him for free. He's had ballack, essien, fat frank ahead of him. He's a decent player but he's not THAT good.

We got him on a free transfer! ;) To be fair, he wasn't given much chances to prove himself. But when he was playing, I felt he was intimidated by the likes of Lampard and Ballack. Never had it in him to take a shot on goal for instance, unlike his days at Reading!

Must admit I just don't see him as 'the next level' for us. Looked good at Reading but then, he was a big fish there. Oh, and if Frank is fat, I seriously need to go on a diet! To think we missed out on Lampard thanks to old Dougy boy before Chelsea got him!

Where would Sidwell fit in? With Reo Coker and Barry, we need an attacking centre midfielder not another box to box type player. Can see the Hoyte one, plus Carr too on a free. Not sure if we will sign Carson, only time will tell. Henry? Not a chance, hope so though.

To be fair to Doug on the Keane one, I think that was JG. He said he made a mistake there (and added that so did all the other PL managers who missed him) but that the few times he went to Wolves to watch him, he had awful games so he wasn't confident enough to push due to the fee being asked!

I would like to see Sidwell at VP and Hunt to come to think of it. I think Carson would be a bad signing look at him this season, he did not look confident or as if he thought he would stop the on coming ball once this season at any point. I think we should try for Igor Akinfeev or Stipe Pletikosa sure then are pricey but look at the importance of a good, strong keeper who give the back 4 confidence and then look at the number of points we lost over the years due to back keepers: such as Carson and Enkelman. I have no doubt that one day Carson will be great but that is a long, long , long way away when he sorts out his head, I just think the price is to high for someone not worth a first 11 place for at least 10 seasons.
