'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Carson Slams Tom Jones Valuation

Scott Carson has slammed the 10 million price tag that Mini Rafa has placed on his head, and furthermore, with or without him, he believes Villa will go from strength to strength.

Speaking to the Evening Mail the almost ever present said:

'It's too much. It's stupid money really. You pay 10million for a goalkeeper who is 27, 28 and the finished article. To be honest, I'm far from the finished article. I have got another five years of learning. I don't think Liverpool are stupid. They know what I'm worth. They would have recouped what they paid for me in loan fees over the last couple of years. So, hopefully, they can help me out and if there is a sniff of going somewhere, then hopefully they will respect my wishes and help me that way."

He also says he wants to get his situation settled as soon as possible so he knows where to set up home admitting the ball is now in Villa's court.

"I have played football for the last two seasons and I don't think I will be content with sitting on the bench. I still don't know what's around the corner. I have got a couple of weeks now to think about what's going to happen."

He says he hasn't spoken to Liverpool yet but as things stand will be returning as his loan deal is over.

In another interview on the official site, Carson added: 'It's been good for me at Villa. We have got into the Intertoto Cup and maybe with a bit of luck we could have got straight into Europe. 'But finishing sixth is a good achievement. When I came here, getting into Europe was the aim and that's what we have done. I don't know what's going to happen (to me), but hopefully the team do well.' Adding, 'Hopefully the manager will keep adding to it and developing it so the team can push on to the next step.'

What do you think? Just can't see he is worth anywhere near what they are saying, he might be the answer for the future but for now we need an experience goalkeeper surely?

10m .........the same price as Barry ! They are having a laugh. If Frank Carson is worth 10m Barry's price is 30m . Take it or leave it red scum.

My god, even Carson realises he is *****.

ok, swear filter, ill change it to NOT VERY GOOD

Feel a bit sorry for Carson. He obviously wants to stay in B6, and at a reasonable price I think we should be interested in buying him. He was excellent pre Croatia, but has looked very insecure since. He has made numerous errors of judgement and doesn't command his penalty area, but can make great saves as well. Very similar to a certain David James at 22 years of age! Where ever he ends up, good luck Scotty, and thanks for youir efforts.
krfeskivilla
i hope we get him back for about 3 mil good luck either way
lewist
I wouldn't say no to him coming in for a lesser amount. Bring in another, experienced, keeper as competition and watch Carson up his game!

lol mackaa, u made me laugh!

the lads only 22. He has made some bad choices in goal this season and looks very poor at keeping out free kicks. I've lost track of how many of those he's conceded this season. BUT, he's young and to be involved in a 6th place campaign at 22 is fairly impressive. he'll get a lot better and for 3 mil we should take a look at him. Any more and it's not worth it
Up The Villa
The whole Barry saga has been stirred up because we've (not surprisingly) baulked at this deal and sent him back. Rafa only recently came out with the "option to buy" line, earlier in the season 9when Carson was flavour of month coincidentally) MON was quoted as saying there was no such arrangement. Looks like Robbo is our man then! Spurs have just signed his replacement.
tarzan
I'll take Robbo, he's made a few clangers but overall you can't say he isn't at least good.

Villa need a quality shot stopper NOW not in 5 years when he has matured, if he dont want to sit on the bench then he better be prepared to move to another club as his future as Villa's No1 must be in question.
col8
I really don't know why people think he's that great or even shows tremendous promise for the future.......I've watched the majority of games this season, and I can barely remember him making a decent save - one or two perhaps, but nothing that I wouldn't have expected any other keeper to have done over the course of a season. I honestly think we'd have let in fewer if we'd kept faith with either Tommy or Tayls in goal.
YatesyVillain
I agree Yatesy, Carson doesn't make the top drawer saves that you see from the really top keepers and that doesn't come down to decision making but ability. Taylor is just as good for me. I personally think we should make a bid for either Kirkland or Rob Green.
notthedougellisstand
Carson is only a youngster, and youngsters make errors thats it. But I do think he will make a good keeper, possibly even world class. Look at James and the clangers he used to make! I think its more about defense we need to be tighter at the back! Keeppers errors are obvious they generally end with conceding a goal which magnifies there mistakes.
gappy65
Taylor has never let us down when called upon and he should feel pretty annoyed to be used so little over the season especially seeing Carsson has not had one outstanding game to justify playing so regularly.
Villan444
Carson isn't good enough. Forget this, 'He's young, he can only improve', thats all hypothetical. As of right now, from what we've seen of him throughout the campaign, he just isn't up to the task. Robinson's not the answer either. Talk about jumping from the frying pan..........
glensider
I think he will become a top keeper, but that is not our problem, our problem is getting someone who is right for us now, and our plans for the future, we cant sit and wait 4 years to see if Carson can or cant make it, we need to push that is why he will not be signed, unless he is happy to be our number 2 for 4 years.
young_jonah
He needs to master the basics of his trade young_jonah before we can talk about him improving with age/experience. As you say though, we cant sign him on the understanding that he may or may not come good five or six years down the road.
