'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Small Villa Squad Even Smaller

Four players have left the club today, only one of which we will truly miss.

Thomas Sorrysen, Olof Mellberg, Patrik The Gob and Scott Carson have all left the club this morning.

Speaking to the press, Martin O'Neill commented:

'Retained lists in my day were really fun and exciting but now everyone seems to be aware of retained lists before it ever comes out.

'It didn't take a massive leap of faith to tell people what was going to happen at the football club.

'Berger was in his final year, Thomas Sorensen was in his final year, as was Olof Mellberg, and Scott doesn't actually belong to us and, to a certain extent, that is out of our hands.'

We all know Mellberg is off to the sun and hopefully for him a few medals at Juve. Carson returns to Liverpool and only time will tell if O'Neill makes a permanent move for him.

Sorrysen and The Gob apparently have plans to get their careers back on track, and The Gob had already announced an offer from another Premiership club.

'Berger has, as he has told the press, got an offer from a Premier League side (linked to Portsmouth last week) but he was going to be leaving at the end of the season anyway.

'Sorensen has got plans, so his agent was telling me, to get his career back on track again.'

Not a great loss really eh.

I must admit the Tommy situation does leave a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth...feel like he was a bit harshly treated. Good luck Tommy...

Was the Curtis Davis deal ever sorted with the Olbyun ? Otherwise officially Curtis limps back to our only local rivals.
HolteEnder43
As has been said a few times, the Davies deal was agreed when he signed on loan. Mowbray said when he was injured that it had no bearing on the deal at all.
Carlosio
Davies was on Soccer AM a few weeks back. Sounded like it was all sorted,

I agree olaf.... It was a bit harsh really but also think about Taylor. He played, did nothing wrong and got dropped for calamity carson!

So we're left with just Stuart Taylor in the goalkeeping department. Worrying. We need two more keepers, thats if we intend to keep hold of ST. He might want to move on for regular first team football. Agree that Tommy S was a better keeper than many seemed prepared to give him credit for.

We will miss Olly, I remember when he signed, many villa fans said Who? How naive we were!!
