The Villa Summer Transfer Thread - Part 1

The Villa Summer Transfer Thread - Part 1

So here we go again. The transfer window opens at midnight tonight as the season has come to an end. Martin O'Neill took a fair amount of flack last summer for promises that some say he didn't deliver. This summer has to be different and I'm positive it will be. He has now cleared the decks of the players he doesn't want, assessed what he does want and now MUST know Villa have to spend - and spend big - to push on.

MON told the official site after finishing 6th this season: 'We've ended the season with 60 points and in most years that would have been enough to qualify automatically for Europe. Last season we would have walked it and even seventh place got automatically into Europe 12 months ago. 'So from that aspect it's disappointing but it shouldn't mask the fact that we've come on leaps and bounds from last season.'

Adding: 'To do it with the smallest squad in the Premier League has made it particularly impressive but that's something we would want to address in the summer.'

So here it is, the summer long, Aston Villa transfer thread. Last year we got through over 3000 or more article comments and as the summer went on, the anger grew. Lets hope this time we'll get through more and by the end of it all be overjoyed!

Add all the rumours you hear, talk about the targets you want to see us go for, or just generally shoot the breeze (note, a license for shooting said breeze is required).

Over to you Martin.

So we have Sorensen, Berger and probably Carson all off. Barry is in a tug of war which hopefully we'll win. So who will we get in?!?!?

so if taylor leaves that means we will need 2 goalkeepers. We are now without a right back so we need 2 of them. We have Laursen and Knight as our only fit centre backs so we need a minimum of 1 centre backs. Bouma is an excellent defender but crap at distribution, but the left back is the least of our worries. Cover is needed for him which makes 5 players needed already. I'd like to see a creative midfield player to add some flair to the team. We also need a right winger/right midfielder. Possible even cover on the left wing. Dread to think what we'd do if young had a big injury? And we also need a goalscorer. MON definitely has his work cut out!

bloody hell!! not this thread again, we need a lot of players to equip us with a challenge in europe. MON will not be able to leave it last minute , he will have to buy early and buy quickly, he will need to act!

Goalkeeper has to be no.1 priority. Apparently Carsson got a hand to one of their goals and it STILL went in. We are officially the 3rd top scorers in the Prem all season. If we hadn't let in so many then it makes you wander if we couldn't have finished higher. Carsson out ASAP. Send him back to Scouse land with a replica Barry shirt as that is the closest they should get.

We need a GK, RB, CB, CM, CF and a couple of squad players. Just want to say the GK should be either Kirkland or Rob Green, either of those would do for me.

Pking I would not argue about Solano been a brilliant player, he should never have been allowed to leave Villa.
