Sunday's Villa Transfer Rumours

Thought there would be a bit more on the rumour front today as the transfer window opens for us (and everyone else obviously!) tonight at midnight.

The News of the World claim that Martin O'Neill is returning to his old haunt, recently relegated Leicester City to try to prize away 17-year-old defender Joe Mattock and 20-year-old Richard Stearman, who can play at right-back and centre-back for around £2.5million.

Rumour rating? Both players are England U21 inernationals, so these links do make sense judging by what MON has been doing since his arrival.

The People claim that Peter Crouch will be leaving Liverpool as he is prepared to buy out the final year of his contract but that he will be moving abroad with Villarreal apparently looking at him.

Rumour rating? Not sure I believe this one, I think he'll be off in the summer, he is too good a player to sit on a bench half the season, but think he'll stick around the Premiership with both Villa (not possibly more unlikely after the public falling out) and Portsmouth being linked in recent months.

Meanwhile The News of the World claim that Gareth Barry will give in a transfer request this week as he has set his heart on a move to Liverpool. They even have an 'inside source' who says: 'Gareth feels it's time to move on. He's given his all to Villa but feels he now needs the new challenge and the opportunity to compete at the very top of the Premier League.' Arsenal and Chelsea are also said to be interested.

Rumour rating? Sadly, quite a high possibility. Spoke to a couple of people this week in the game (hey, I have an 'inside source' wahey*) who are convinced he is on his way to Anfield.

Believe it or not if Barry goes life will go on and we will get better as a team. I personally don't think he will go.
Donzarra
Agree Donzarra, wouldn't want him to go but if he does, the club goes on. Has done before, will do again!
The Fear
No time to catch our breath now. The rumours will be flying thick and fast. Agreed Donzarra. Look back to when Andy Gray and Johnny Gidman moved on, we thought it was the end of the world. Two years later we were League Champions. Life does indeed, and most certainly will, go on.
