Today's Villa Transfer Rumours

Today's Villa Transfer Rumours

Not that much in the way of transfer gossip today, few snippets including Zoltan the destroyer. Well, his name is Zoltan Gera really but he sounds like a character from an old Flash Gordon film! I digress... The 29-year-old Baggies and Hungary international player has yet to sign a new contract for the newly promoted West Brom and has been linked several times to Villa as well as Middlesbrough, Wigan and Bolton. He said: 'My team-mates, the management and the fans want me to stay and it makes me feel good but at the moment I don't know how to continue. Now I'll have some free time to think about my future. I have to think not only about myself but also about my family. I must see what's the best for them. Now only one thing is for sure - WBA are promoted.'

Reports today suggest that Martin O'Neill is looking at Newcastle and former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Stephen Carr after being blocked in any move for Jose Boswinga. 31-year-old Carr is available on a free as his contract runs out this summer. Why not get Geordie winger James Milner while you are there?!

One link that seems to have bitten the dust is Jose Boswinga. The 25-year-old Portuguese international was linked last summer and again in January but his agent Rui Neno says he will only leave Porto for a side in the Champions League. 'I have no idea where these suggestions came from. I have never been contacted by anyone from Aston Villa. It does not seem to me that the player would be interested to sign for Aston Villa. He would match up to a Champions League side.'

Wigan defender Paul Scharner has been linked to Villa and Everton according to The Manchester Evening News.

Another report, this time in the People, albeit with no substance or quotes, says that Villa are after Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen who is valued for around £4million. Barcelona are also linked!

Is it me, or does Carr sound too much like Carsson to be any good at playing football. The man gave us at least 2 of the goals last time we played them.

Carr cannot drive one let alone play football. If we get him he will be 2nd in choice too who ever we sign at Right Back. Where's this Nelson guy!

Poulsen would be a very good signing. He is a classic destroyer in the centre of midfield.

Poulsen would definetely be the best addition of all the names above mentionned.

I can see why O'Neill might look at Carr, he is a very experienced right back and since we need two right backs anyway why not try out Carr. He has injury trouble but look at Villa's past with players with injury troubles e.g McGrath Fergi thought he was finished and look at what he did at Villa plus Laursen seems to be getting over his injury problums, Carr looks like the typical O'Neill type buy cheap and cast off by most in football but honest and hard working. He cannot prove to be a worse player for villa than Carson.

Carr is crusty and I would Much rather Gardner learn the role and allow a youth team member to sit on the bench as RB than pay this guy his last pay day contract

Poulsen for 4mil? If that's anywhere near serious then buy him now...that's silly money for such a quality midfielder.

Carr, Sidwell and Beattie - absolute gash IMHO! This would be a major step backwards. I'm fearful of this window because of the last minute approach we take, we need sigings straight away so they can bed in. Other teams manage it, why can't we?

I've seen that we are also linked with Michael Bradley, the 20 year old american midfielder from Hereenveen. I've played against him when we were both 17 and he was class then. I can only imagine him now - given he's only playing in the dutch league.
