Lets Be Quiet And Do Talking ON The Pitch?

Lets Be Quiet And Do Talking ON The Pitch?

Ok, grumpy head on, wouldn't it be nice, in the lead up to a game if the players said little to nothing that they can't guarantee they'll deliver?

Stiliyan Petrov has told the official site today that Villa are determined to end the season well. Ok, good. Err, Wigan last weekend?

Talk on the pitch means a great deal more than in the press surely, or am I just Mr Grumpy Pants from Grumpyville?

Petrov said 'We want to play in Europe and we want to finish the job. We've made our job harder but it is not impossible. We'll go to West Ham trying to win and hopefully the result will go our way in the other game. It was disappointing to lose after the run we've had but it is important to bounce back straight away. We'll give it our best shot at West Ham and if you look at our results this season, we know we can win away from home. We will go there confident we can win.'

Adding, 'The message to the fans is that it is not over yet. We will go to West Ham looking for three points and we'll see where we are when the season finishes.'

He also adds that they were disappointed not to have put the pressure fully on Everton after the no show against Wigan but reminds us there is another game to play. Villa have to beat West Ham, all Everton need is a draw v Newcastle to finish 5th. 6th place is also still up in the air with us, Blackburn and Pompey (both of whom have to win to leapfrog us) all able to take that spot. If Pompey finish there it won't matter too much, but if Blackburn finish above us they'll take the Inter Two Bob place and leave Villa reflecting on what could have been!

Hopefully with a good summer in the transfer market, this time next season there will be no if's and buts. I'm sure a few other teams are thinking the same!

Fear, I totally agree, I get absolutely sick of the players coming out and making this silly statements, they are paid to play football not to make claims to the press. Martin O'Neill is only person who should be chatting to the papers, not the players, they should be making their statements on the field, not off it.

After the completely abject performance against Wigan it would be nice to see the players do their talking on the pitch. I know we have had a good season but it would be such a shame not to get into Europe after being the top 6 for most of the season. Come on boys finish the job.

I understand what you are both saying, and it really winds me up too..... but, how bored would we all be if there was nothing to read on the OS, and the players were silenced? I'm sure we'd then moan about lack of commuication from the club.

Not saying silenced Deano, but to play like they did at the weekend and then come out with promises again is probably taking it a bit far. Makes them look a bit daft imho. We have been on a good run recently but then we have played some very very very bad teams.

We played a very bad team on Saturday and got humbled because we failed to turn up when it mattered most. Wigan are an awful team who play kick and rush football but we didn't get a grip of the game in midfield (Barry's mind seemed to be elsewhere (Liverpool ?)). When this happens Ashley Young doesn't get into the game and the front two have no service. Hopefully we will go down to West Ham with something to prove after that performance and turn them over and hope Newcastle do us a favour. I'm just remembering back to the Newcastle game in February when we were all singing "There's only one Kevin Keegan" after our third and fourth goals. I just hope we are singing the same again Sunday afternoon.

I doubt petrov went and hunted down someone so he could say this,he was asked for a comment he gave one, what do you want him to say?we are going to west ham to play *****,***** the uefa cup i want to go on holiday. They need something to put on the website and if they didn`t do it people would moan about how they never hear anything from the players. If you don`t like it don`t read it.

British84 to be fair mate, it is rammed down our throats all the time, how they are gonna do this and that, i am sick of empty promises, i would rather them do well and not build themselves up than them commenting on every game saying we will perform then they dont, they are paid to play not talk, if they want to talk then they take the consequences which upsetting half the fans by promising something then not delivering.

I know what you mean jonah thats why i stopped reading it on the most part but at the same time it`s not petrovs fault it`s the fact that there is a website to fill every day which means someone walking around bodymoore asking questions which will always have the same response.
