Olof Mellberg - Villa Legend (Great Images!)

Olof Mellberg - Villa Legend

Olof Mellberg thanked the fans for their support on his last home game and apologised about the result!

Many fans turned up in Viking hats and beards and plenty had Sweden tops on.

The Villa legend, off to Juventus in the summer, said:

'The fans were fantastic before, during and after the game. It was very special and not many players get to experience that. Everyone knows I'm not going to be playing here next season so we had the chance to thank each other.'

'I had the chance to look around and see all the yellow shirts, the flags and everything. It was fantastic. I'm disappointed about the result but in a few days time I will be able to look back at everything else. I've taken a few pictures and filmed everything that happened after the game. I'll look back at this with a lot of emotion. To hear all the fans was very special and it was important for me to be able to thank them as well. They have supported me through all my time at Aston Villa and I will miss them.'

Olof also paraded around after with his kids, which is a nice touch I think.

Thanks Mellberg, 'it's been emotional!' Good luck at Juventus and don't forget to visit!

Good luck Ollie, you have been great for us.

Never before have I known a player leaving with such good will from everyone and I can honestly say that you deserve all of it Olof. Thank you and good luck. This is the stuff of legend, not just a great player but a Villa man through and through, always giving 100% and never complaining. Other players may be remembered for being more skillfull on the pitch but never has or will a player be remembered at Villa for being a batter man.

I don't think anyone can argue that Olly has remained 110% committed to the Aston Villa cause. His performance yesterday was one of the few rays of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day. Good luck mate and as JF said in the main article - don't forget to visit, once a legend, always a legend and always welcome.

Good luck at Juve ollie. You deserve to win a few medals before you hang up your boots, I'll certainly be sticking a few quid on Juve to win Seria A next season!

Good Luck IceMan. You never let us down. Incidentally, do Villa have an option on your youngest? There were a few classy touches with the left peg at the end yesterday!

End of an era for Olof and a new beginning in Italy. Now the problem is replacing him... over to you Martin.

Gutted, by far our best defender since God although i do belive if Laurson gives as many years as Olly he could overtake him. Legend for Eternity & loved forever
TuBBz
Doubt he'll manage that one, with his knees he'd be lucky to get a full season next time round. tada
PTP
All the best big man!!
