Bid For Barry In? Load of Rubbish! Updated
Reports today are suggesting that Liverpool have made a bid of £10million for Villa captain Gareth Barry.
It is my understanding that the press are talking through their hats and no doubt some quotes will follow saying there has been no contact from Liverpool.
If there has been contact and the bid is £10million I think we all have suggestions where they can stick it!
The Sun are re-hashing the rumour that Rafael Benitez is after Barry and wants to use Peter Crouch as part of the deal. They say O'Neill is 'apparently' a 'huge admirer' of the England striker.
Yawn, old story.
Bill Howell of the Birmingham Mail says that Villa will take £8million and Peter Crouch.

£10 mill? Funniest thing I've heard all season. Would they let Gerrard go for £10 or £12 mill? Hell no! And Barry is just as important to us as Gerrard is to them!

Just read that the deal is 8 million and crouch coming this way g.b going to liverpool i would take that to be honest barry can be replaced he is very good but not great.

Just in on SSN O'Neill has confirmed that Liverpool have made a bid for Barry .No details on how much .

And UTV, i think even MON has to look at what a good fincancial deal for him is cuz as we've learned before, naming no names, if a player wants to go, they generally do so might as well try and get the best deal we can, i'm not happy with it, captain and old captain going at the end of the season, who would be new? NCR? I'd rather give it the Hare lol

Really we have to price him out of the market and sign him up. Then get Crouch in

£10 million, are they for real? I mean that figure is totally ridiculous. If he is indeed to move on, and sadly I suspect he might, then surely closer to £15 million is considerably more realistic, and closer to the going rate. If Crouch is involved as part of the deal, I will be most concerned and upset, I really will.

I'd take Jermaine Defoe as a makeweight as opposed to Crouch. I've accepted that Gareth will move on, I dont think that there's too much doubt about that, but lets make sure that any deal is in the best interests of AVFC. Sod Liverpool, and for that matter, sod GB too, after all, he still has two years of a contract still to run. While we probably dont want to stand in his way if he wants out, lets ensure we dont lose our undies over this transaction.

Gareth Barry isn't for sale and Martin O'Neill has told them in a very polite way that Gareth is contracted to Villa for two years so he isn't going anywhere as "he isn't the sort of player to break a contract". Then he slagged them off for going public with the bid and told them where they could shove it. Do not perpetuate this rumour. Do not get used to the idea that he's leaving. I see some of you are already getting ready to soften the blow by convincing yourselves that he isn't that good!! STOP IT NOW!!!

absolutely what i was gonna say godzvilla! listen to MON's tone of voice. we are not gonna lose gareth barry this summer. barry is crucial to us breaking into the top 3 and liverpool, and with a few key signings this summer we can do it. and i think we will bring in those players. barry is a nice guy, someone who will see the value in staying at villa and becoming one of our true legends.

godzvilla you've hit the nail on the head..I actually fully expect MON will convince Barry to stay IF we make the UEFA Cup. It's a natural transition for Villa. 1st UEFA cup then Champs League. For all your redscouse reading this do not underestimate AVFC. Look at the league table.. you will more than likely finsh 1 place ahead of us in the league.. How much have you spent???how big is your squad???you have so many mediocre nameless mish-mash midfielders.. Barry don't wanna sit on the bench. Barry stays and he becomes a legend he is already close on appearances etc. ********* to Liverpool and their *****e management and setup they have really gone down in my estimations. How good would it be to finish above them next season. For all you who doubt AVFC watch this space you were lucky at VP and Anfield this season. I hope MON faxes them back requesting Gerrard and Tores (signed by Doug Ellis).. disrespecful *******. therefore show them zero respect in exchange

The bottom line is if the money is on the table Villa will make the most of a good offer. £15,000,000 or nothing in two years!
