5th Place Goes To The Wire

MON believes that the race for 5th Place will go right to the wire, but he believes Everton are in the driving seat.

Speaking to the Evening Mail, our manager said:

"I can see Europe going right to the wire and we have to keep our side of the bargain. Everton are in the driving seat. They are in control of their destiny but they have a tough game on Sunday at Arsenal.

"We have a tough game against Wigan and the only thing that we can really do is put incredible pressure on them by winning the game.

"If you could give me either position- I would take Everton`s rather than ours.'

I'm not sure here, I'd rather we played Wigan and Wet Spam rather than Arsenal and Newcastle - but maybe that's me.

The worst bit will be if we do fail to catch them, we won't be able to not look back at matches like Fulham that would've changed the whole situation for us.

Regardless of what happens though, this season has been a real achievement and could've been better. If we do slip up now we've set the perfect level to go even further next season if we strengthen the team properly and give ourselves the best possible chance.

I don't think we can say things at this point such as the "what ifs" about Fulham and Middlesbrough. Everton can clearly say the same after their past few weeks and I think it's nearly evened out. They too lost to Fulham. Hell Man City blew a 2-0 lead at HOME to Fulham! I think it's true that whoever gets 5th does deserve it at this point. However even if we're 6th and only in the intertoto, remember that 6th place almost any other year is an automatic UEFA spot and a hell of an acheivement. Barry should remember that too.

Whatever happens, we've made tremendous strides this season, and have to ensure we do likewise come 2008-09. No resting on our laurels.

we have good momentum and the two equalisers on sunday will give us inspiration. beating wigan would be a huge lift. arsenal will beat everton. we can't look backward and think of dropped points, and i am sure MON isn't either.

There's gonna be all to play for on the last weekend of the season if we beat Wigan and Arsenal do us a favour. Come on you Villa boys!!!
