Gareth Barry - Thoroughly Good Egg!

Gareth Barry has shown what a thoroughly decent bloke he is by hinting he'll follow in Niall Quinn's shoes and donate his testimonial money to charity.

Quinn donated around a million pound to Sunderland Royal Infirmary and Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children following the money he raised during 2002.

And now the Villa skipper has hinted in the Express and Star he'll do the same:

'Niall Quinn donated money to charity and if something else can be achieved through it that’s helping different causes, then fine.'

He also says it is a difficult balance these days with testimonials, as players already earn enough!

'In terms of a testimonial meaning 10 years at a club I’m proud to have achieved that. Come May it will be 10 years and a great achievement for myself and the club. Just being around fans and reading different comments of how they see it, it’s a well-spoken subject about whether players should get testimonials these days with the amount of money in the game.'

Top man. Now get the testimonial organised, sign a new contract at Villa and become a legend getting us into the Champions League.

There, sorted, that wasn't so difficult was it?

Whatever happened to Hendries supposed testimonial?
silkie villain
Haha, yeah MON shipped him out just in time for him to not get one...maybe that's where all this Barry leaving talk is coming from, MON simply doesn't like testimonials

Typical of the guy. He deserves recognition for his loyal service to the AVFC cause. Just hope his loyalty extends beyond the summer. Whatever happens - hats off to Gareth.

Another great performance from him at Goodison today - so the speculation clearly isn't effecting him.
