O'Neill Rounds On Press Over Barry Accusations
Martin O'Neill has rounded on the press who inferred that Gareth Barry's quotes recently about needing to see ambition from Villa in order to stay were a 'put up' job by the Villa boss to get Randy Lerner to spend. Related articles: Barry - I can be successful here and Click Here
He told the Birmingham Mail:
'I don't need anyone to speak for me. I'm not 20 years of age - I'm an old man. I've got a rapport with the chairman and I don't need anyone to speak on my behalf, certainly not a player. What would be the point? Absolutely and utterly not.'
He also says he is cynical about matching people's ambitions when asked if Villa could match the Villa skippers. 'It's a phrase that's grown but it's one I probably invented myself years ago and I get fed up with it. Everyone wants the same thing. If my ambition is greater than someone else's then they should listen to me? I don't run with that. People who say 'match my ambition' are usually frightened to death of their jobs!'
But did add, 'For us to go and compete, we will have to address things in the summer.'
As per the previous article (Click Here) , some reports today are claiming MON will ask Randy for around £80million this summer in order to mount a serious challenge on Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.
