Olof Mellberg Clinches Award By A Whisker

Vital Villa have started the end of season awards.

The first one up was best beard of the season award (originally set up 6 seasons ago to ensure that Mellberg won something whilst at Villa).

The options were:

Olof Mellberg or Olof Mellberg

Mellberg won by a whisker (get it?) over Mellberg! 51% to 49%

Yes, I know I've lost my marbles, but this is a major honour for Ollie and I'll make sure the club pass on our congratulations to him. I'll also beg to see if we can get an acceptance speach for the prize (which is a blunt razor to make sure he doesn't think about shaving the beard off!)

Congraluations to Mellberg, he has beaten off all comers including Ridgewells bum fluff and Juan Pablo Angels goatee to pick up the award six seasons in a row.

Our latest poll asks for your predictions for the crunch game v Everton, then we'll get into the serious business of player of the year etc!

The big question has to be who will win this covetted crown next season?!?

To show consistency like this and win an award 6 YEARS IN A ROW is magnificent and it shows the character of the man. If only the rest of the team showed so much desire, persistence and willingness to achieve such wonderous feats in the facial hair department, we may already be in the top 4!!!!

Gillette and King of Shaves have been in contact saying he is everything they loath in a player! ;-)))

I think it should now be retired in his honour or at least rename it the Mellberg award.

Agree with supermansfoot, this honour should indeed be renamed after this multiple winner, the Mellberg award (or Melly for short) might inspire the future generations of Villa stars to strive for true greatness.

big john might win it next year. he has a tendency to lean towards the facial hair appearance technique maneuvre. maybe we should ask olly to shave his beard and bury it under the villa park centre circle so it can live forever and ever and grow into a viking beard tree. but seriously though, if we sign anyone with a gavin peacock not-really-a-beard beard then i will cry unless it is david villa who was clearly born to play for us given his name.

I think in Ollies honour, this most prestigious of awards should be retired along with the player?!

I`ve been growing mine since the Juventus deal was confirmed and is indeed now a tenth as impressive as the Nordic Warrior God,the hair around me chin and cheeks will be twice as heavy against Wigan due to the tears that will extract from the whole day,i love you Olaf.

I think that one of Martin's priorities over the summer is to get a good bearded player!

We need Gabby + Ash to grow the old facial hair, show some uniformity, get Gareth to join in too. We could do with a bearded captain.

The key thing with Olof too is he kept you always guessing. You never knew whether he'd be with or without.
