Ashley Young’s stock continues to rise after another devastating performance for Aston Villa saw him climb to fourth place in the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League. Young Gun Shoots Up Actim
Good luck to everyone at Villa nominated in the Official Football Hospitality Awards. Villa are up for four categories, the Conference and Events Marketing, Chef Team of the Year, Matchday Hospitality and Directors Experience. Tour guide Jack Watts (90 this year) is also up for a Special Achievement award. The official site stats that last season Villa 'scooped first place for 'Conference and Events Marketing' and received a commendation in the 'Media Choice', 'Directors Boardroom' and 'Matchday Hospitality Experience' categories.' The awards are on May 22.
Martin O'Neill says he will talk to the agent of 29-year-old left-back Wilfred Bouma to extend his contract. The current deal runs out this summer and Villa have until April 30 to take up the option of another 12 months. MON recently said he wants to extend the term of his contract.
Stiliyan Petrov is looking to repeat last seasons trip to Goodison Park and come away with another win. ''We need to do the same again this time. We have been doing very well, but we know Everton are a quality team and we will have to be at our best. They are playing for Europe and so are we, so it should be a good game. If we win we are ahead in the race at an important time. We will go there with lots of confidence and we know we can score goals. Hopefully our good run will continue.' Adding, 'This is definitely one of the biggest games of the season and if we can win we will be in a very good position. It is the same for Everton, so they will be up for this game as well. I'm looking forward to every single game and I know it is the same with the other players. Everyone can see we are enjoying our football at the moment.'
Martin O'Neill says the chairman and him are looking to keep the best players this summer and will look at contracts. 'If someone is worth something here and he’s doing so well, to reward him by either putting him above or alongside his peers because that’s where we stand at the time, I haven’t got a problem. I would set out the same principle at every football club.' Adding, 'The players know me by now and they know if they’re doing brilliantly, they don’t need to walk into my office – I can foresee these things. I will be looking at all these things with the players who have done so well. It wouldn’t matter if they signed last year – I will look at it again.' Moustapha Salifou, who has helped greatly in securing the reserves league title this year, is looking at a full pre-season and an assault on the senior team next term. The 24-year-old Togolese international said: 'I feel happy with the way things have gone, although I would obviously like more chances to play. It's disappointing that I haven't played more but if you look at the squad there are some very good midfielders here.' He says he knows he has to be patient but has to force his way into the first team next season if he has any hopes of gaining a new contract. 'I feel I have the ability and I will be physically ready because I will be able to prepare properly in pre-season.'
According to the Daily Mirror, in a repeated rumour, Villa are looking to bid £5million for Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell. They claim that MON has 'conceded' that Gareth Barry 'may' leave at the end of the season. Hog wash has he!?
The Daily Star have claimed, in another rumour that has been doing the rounds for some while, that Villa will go for 18-year-old Bournemouth striker Sam Vokes for a fee of around £250 000. They claim that Newcastle are also in the hunt.
Thought for the day: 'I smile because I don't know what the hell is going on.'
