Villa Reserves Win League Title (South)

Villa Reserves Win League Title (South)

Villa reserves won the Barclays Premier Reserve League (south) title last night after Reading failed to beat Portsmouth in their game. Villa will now face Liverpool (champions of the northern league) on May 7 in a play off.

Reserve boss Kevin MacDonald said on the official site that the players have earnt the title and added,

'I'm really pleased for the young lads - they've won the Academy league already this season and now they've got the reserve title. But I also have to pay tribute to the senior players who've really played their part for us this season. The likes of Patrik Berger, Marlon Harewood, Stuart Taylor, Moustapha Salifou and more recently Wayne Routledge have been a credit to the football club.'

He also thinks the future is bright for the club: 'Things are going well at Villa. The first-team are pushing for Europe and we all hope they can continue the recent great run. The kids have already topped their table and they reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals. So I'm just pleased we've played our part.'

Adding that Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner are interested in all the levels at Villa 'and that's a big part of why things are moving in the right direction at Villa.'

Youth Cup semi finalists, Academy and Reserve League winners. Very encouraging. Just worried about keeping Captain Fantastic at the club. Been tapped up by Stevie G, me thinks.
