Unoial Villa News...
Villa reserves drew 1-1 with Chelsea last night. Nathan Baker equalised for Villa bringing them within just one point of the league title and if Reading don't beat Pompey in their match tonight, the boys will be out of reach of anyone, job done, game over...! Details: Click Here
Some of the gossip sites are saying that Spurs boss Juande Ramos will allow right-back Pascal Chimbonda to exit stage left in the summer. Both Villa and Newcastle have been linked to the French international.
John Carew has told the Sun that Villa can finish fifth and get the last European place. 'We’ve every reason to be confident. After scoring 15 goals in three games things couldn’t be better.'
The Mirror also have quotes from the Hulk, this time he is saying that if the rumours are true that former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry wants to return to the Premiership, we should go for him! With a less than stunning season at Barcelona following his £16million transfer, Carew says: 'If he wants to come back, I say get him here.' JC also answered when asked about links to players like Crouch, he said: “I would welcome any good player to come here. The more good players, the better for the team. The more good players, the stronger you are during a whole season.'
The lads are out in force telling Gareth Barry that he should stay at Villa amidst rumours of moves to Liverpool and links to Chelsea.
*Zat Knight said: 'It shows where Villa want go when the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea come in for Gareth and yet he still wants to see what is going to happen here. It just shows where Villa want to go because a lot of people would jump at the chance to go to Liverpool or Chelsea. We are trying to build something special here over the next couple of years and hopefully he can be part of it. We need Gareth to stay because he has got that bit of class. We are just pleased to have him at the moment and hopefully we can keep him.'
*John Carew adding, 'I can't really say about Gareth and his situation. I just hope he stays and he is one of our most important players. What will happen, or not happen, is difficult to say. I think he will stay. He is our captain, he is the symbol of the club. I think he will stay but let's wait and see.'
*Martin Laursen told the Mail On Sunday: 'I can see how it can be a problem if one of the 'Big Four' teams comes in with £20million for one of our players. It would be difficult for a club like Villa to ignore that. But the final decision will still come down to the player. I think there is a good argument to say they are better off here, playing and developing every week, rather than not contributing at another club. This is a club who are going places. We have a lot of good young players here. It's why I signed a new contract here - because I believe in the future. I can't see myself playing for another English team.'
*Scott Carson added: 'It is massive that Gareth stays. He is the captain here and a vital part of the manager's plans. I would say he is the centre point of the team and the most consistent player. If he went, it would be a massive blow. He is the heartbeat of the team.'
Ashley Young says he was disappointed not to have made the final cut for the England squad to face France but says he will bounce back adding, 'I just want to do well for the club. It is all about club football at the moment and staying on the winning trail. I've always said if you are doing well for the club, then the international side of things will take care of itself. I just want to do well for the rest of the season and get the team as high up the league as possible.'
Young has also spoken on the official site about our visit to Goodison Park next week to take on Everton. He said: 'We're looking forward to getting three points again. Every game is a big game and we have to approach it in the same way. It will be a tough game but we go in high on confidence and looking forward to it.' Adding that the team have shown character to 'bounce back' from the drop in form.
Olof Mellberg has admitted that despite the standing ovation he received when he was substituted, he just didn't want that game to end! Mellberg Wanted To Play Forever
If rumours are to be believed, Martin O'Neill will be sitting down with Ashley Young and offering him a contract extension after his performances this season. Young said: 'I don't need to sign a new deal, I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season and if the manager wants to give me a new deal, fine. I'm just concentrating on things on the field. It's a massive club and we said even last season that the club was evolving and we`re looking forward to getting ourselves back up the table.' Full article: Young To Grow Old At Villa
