Tragic, Senseless Incident - UPDATE

Police are appealing for information following the suspected murder of a 26-year-old man near Villa Park after the derby game yesterday.

The Birmingham Mail state that the victim hasn't been identified as yet but he is believed to be a football fan.

Further to that he appears to be a Villa fan.

They also quote a West Midlands Police spokeswoman: 'A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 26-year-old male suffered fatal injuries after a road traffic collision between a Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian.'

Anyone with information should call the police on 0845 113 5000.

Condolences to the young mans
family and may he rest in peace.

Update:

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: 'Following some reports in the media, we would like to clarify that the 26-year-old man who died following the Villa match yesterday was a Villa fan.

'His identity is not being released at this stage.

'The 20-year-old male driver of the vehicle allegedly involved in the collision is currently in custody.

'We can confirm that he is also a Villa fan.

'The motive for the incident is unclear at this stage and we are continuing to investigate.'

The bbc are actually saying the fella arrested is a fellow villa supporter. Not sure what that implies, but they wouldn't announce arrested for murder unless there were sufficient grounds to do so.

Clearly all of the facts are not yet out there, but a very sad, and tragic end to a Sunday afternoon at the football. What a senseless waste of a life.

there was a strange vibe outside VP yesterday, if you wrn't overtly wearing your teams colours, there was a bit of abuse and posturing by in my case a couple of groups of young villa fans of between 14 - 19 years of age, The guy who sits next to me had the same thing! As I had walked to VP from the city centre on my own I had seen this as a safety measure, how ironic that it should then draw the wrong kind of attention from my fellow Villans!
