Petrov - After Villa Hero Status

Man of the moment Stiliyan Petrov is looking for hero status at Villa!

He told Bill Howell of the Birmingham Mail:

'Every player wants to be a hero, every player wants to be loved.'

His last two performances have shown what a great talent is there which makes some of his performances in the last two seasons even more frustrating and baffling, however a goal or two this Sunday v our local rivals would certainly go some way to raising his status!

He continued that every player wants the respect of being seen as a good player and that is what he is 'striving for'.

He also explains that 'When I get criticised I get more motivated,' adding somewhat cheekily, 'I will always be the first to criticise myself, because I know what I am capable of. It's my second year and I need to start showing it because not every fan in every club has patience.'

I must admit I think fans have been patient, two years to show some semblance of form isn't that impressive but if he carries on as he has the last few games, we could be in for a totally different Stan next season?

I dunno, he had two great games against BOLTON and DERBY and he looked half decent against Man Utd as well, let's see what he brings to the table in the next 4 matches, if he plays anything like the last two games it will show he is a good player and not inconsistant, Birmingham, Everton, Wigan and West Ham are not walk overs by any means.
Villa 4 Ever
Totally agree, four hard games, we need him at 110% and then to start next season on top form, no more time can be wasted waiting surely?
The Fear
He's been a glensider hero since day one. Stan is the man. He's there alongside Bruce Rioch, Alex Cropley, Morty, and Merse in my book. Midfield maestro's. Way to go Stan.
glensider
Even though I'm not a Villa fan, he's one of my favourtie players.
Fan of Blues
Fan of Blues, join the club. You're clearly a closet Villan.
glensider
keep bangin them in like that stan and it wont be long before you are a hero.
Stig
Fair play to Stan (and to Glensider who has always rated the bloke). He has been like a different player recently and my opinion of him is changing rapidly. Ultimately, as villa fans we want every player who pulls on the shirt to succeed. I have always wanted that for Stan and am chuffed to rocks he is finally doing it.
jonah
Thanks, glensider for the invitaion, but I will have to say no! :) I've always been a fan of him. That's all!
Fan of Blues
Could I be so bold as to ask which blues you are a fan of? Theres so many.
col8
I think he's chelski. Is everyone loving Petrov now? Thats a bit wierd.
PTP
One of my best mates is a Liverpool/Celtic fan and when we signed him he was saying what a great signing it was. That first half against Newcastle at Villa Park was SO bad I really thought his VP career was over. Fair play to him though he seems to have used that humiliatingly bad performance and subsequent substitution at half time as motivation to get his career back on track. Hat trick for Stan on Sunday anyone!!??!!

I think there's only me and Glensider that are convinced that Petrov is a class act. He will prove all his doubters wrong of that I am sure. you cant play at international level with the plaudits he gets and be as bad as some fans think. I remember a player at the scum called Tarantini, he was totally barrated. But he was class. The fans drove him out. Please don't let this happen to Petrov!!!
gappy65
col8, I'm a Chelsea fan. gappy65, you can add me to the list! ;)
Fan of Blues
Not at all gappy, I think he is a class act BUT if he can't show that on the pitch for 90 minutes REGULARLY then he has less use than a fish has for a bicycle! I would LOVE him to start doing what he has in patches (and did in spades in the last two games) week in and week out as he would be an amazing asset for us. Maybe with more quality around him he'll improve even more?
The Fear
I agree with you Fear, But I also think a cycling fish is quite useful... I have a Theory and that is about GB. I think he stifles the rest of midfield with his licience to roam. I have seen NRC and SP play oustanding football for there countries, but they have the freedom to create. in this side they break up the play and hold there position. But thats MON's orders I guess.
gappy65
agree gappy, it is under MON's orders as he has mentioned it a few times that Stan is more used to roaming forwards but he has had him in a holding role.
The Fear
Stan might even achieve the outstanding honour of being voted Vital Villa Man Of The Month for April.
