Petrov - After Villa Hero Status

Petrov - After Villa Hero Status

Man of the moment Stiliyan Petrov is looking for hero status at Villa!

He told Bill Howell of the Birmingham Mail:

'Every player wants to be a hero, every player wants to be loved.'

His last two performances have shown what a great talent is there which makes some of his performances in the last two seasons even more frustrating and baffling, however a goal or two this Sunday v our local rivals would certainly go some way to raising his status!

He continued that every player wants the respect of being seen as a good player and that is what he is 'striving for'.

He also explains that 'When I get criticised I get more motivated,' adding somewhat cheekily, 'I will always be the first to criticise myself, because I know what I am capable of. It's my second year and I need to start showing it because not every fan in every club has patience.'

I must admit I think fans have been patient, two years to show some semblance of form isn't that impressive but if he carries on as he has the last few games, we could be in for a totally different Stan next season?

I dunno, he had two great games against BOLTON and DERBY and he looked half decent against Man Utd as well, let's see what he brings to the table in the next 4 matches, if he plays anything like the last two games it will show he is a good player and not inconsistant, Birmingham, Everton, Wigan and West Ham are not walk overs by any means.

Totally agree, four hard games, we need him at 110% and then to start next season on top form, no more time can be wasted waiting surely?

He's been a glensider hero since day one. Stan is the man. He's there alongside Bruce Rioch, Alex Cropley, Morty, and Merse in my book. Midfield maestro's. Way to go Stan.

Fair play to Stan (and to Glensider who has always rated the bloke). He has been like a different player recently and my opinion of him is changing rapidly. Ultimately, as villa fans we want every player who pulls on the shirt to succeed. I have always wanted that for Stan and am chuffed to rocks he is finally doing it.
