Petrov MofM, Promise & THAT Goal!

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match v Derby (away).

There was only ever going to be one winner after 'that' goal from 40 odd yards out wasn't there?

Up step the resurgent (we hope) Stiliyan Petrov with 61%.

IF he has now settled fully in (yes, I know, I know) AND has his confidence back, he could not only help us finish the season with a straight run of wins v Birmingham City, Everton, Wigan and West Ham, he could be a major asset next season in Europe.

It is a big IF as he has to do this consistently but he has shown in the last two games the quality we have only rarely glimpsed since his outstanding, 11 out of 10 debut v West Ham last season.

Other results:

Nigel Hokey-Cokey (22%)
Gareth Barry (6%)
Scott Carson (6%)
Ashley Young (3%)
Gabby Agbonlahor (1%)
Wilfred Bouma (1%)
Subs (0%)
John Carew (0%)
Olof Mellberg (0%)
Martin Laursen (0%)
Zat Knight (0%)

To see the goals go to Virgin Media: Click Here and to be fair, it isn't just Stan's goal that stands out, there is also a superb finish by Gabby and also look out for a goal saving stop by Scott Carson...! Happy days.

Whilst we are talking about Petrov, he has promised there is far more to come from him telling the official site following his sublime goal, surely a contender for goal of the season? Well, it would be if it was scored by a player from the top four anyway,

'I know David Beckham scored from around there - I remember that one and it was great. I think Beckham's was better but it is harder to hit a half-volley like mine. The keeper was way off his line because he had a bad kick and it just dropped nicely.'

Adding 'The goal was the best one I have ever scored and when you score from there it gives you a great lift.In a few years I can look back and think it was great.'

He also says that they practice shooting a lot and he does extra training to develop more. 'I am 28 and I have a long way to go and a lot to learn. The manager decided recently I wasn't in good form and I didn't need to play. When you come to a new club you want to do well and when you don't, it is hard but I don't look back and haven't given up. The next game is very important as we want to play well and win - maybe I will score another great goal this time with my right foot.'

also superbly taken goal by Gabby and a great save by Carson. Happy days!

Different papers are saying that either Stan, Nige, Ash and Gabby were MOTM. Nice to have several players playing well and standing out for different reasons.

Is catching Everton so far fetched? If they lose to Chelsea & we win at Goodison the gap is 2 points I think?

Had to be Stan. Overall perhaps NRC and Ashley ran him close, but THAT goal had to tip the scales.
