Villa Transfer Gossip Round Up

Not much in the way of Villa gossip today, the News Of The World say that Shaun Wright-Phillips will return to Manchester City for £10m, Villa did at one point try to get him on loan or bring him to Villa Park permanently depending on which reports you believe, so whether MON will go back in for him remains to be seen.

The Red top also claims there is a three way battle for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch between Portsmouth, Villa and Newcastle. They claim Crouch will move for around £6m and that Pompey are winning the race at the moment. Quite how they would know that remains a mystery!

The Sunday People claim that Roman Abramovich will give Avram Grant or whoever the Chelsea boss is for the start of next season, £100m to go after who he wants and they mention Villa skipper Gareth Barry along with Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero and Lyon's Karim Benzema.

The Sunday Express say that Martin O'Neill was in Germany to assess Bayern Munich's experienced Belgian defender Daniel van Buyten. Only 2 more Bayern players to be linked and we'll have the full set won't we?!

Will get the summer long transfer thread up at the end of the month, always good for comments, entertainment and ultimately suicidal frustration! lol

so according to the papers this weekend Barry is of To Chelsea, Young off too Liverpool and Gabi off too Arsenal, and we might sign Milner. Great
leelindsay
this is where the top 4 start cherry picking who they want, lets hope mon makes sure their heads don't get turned !

This summer is a very important window for MON, cause if we miss out on Europe this season it may be forgiven but missing out next year? The fans would call for his head, plus Barry, Young and Gabby would look else where. He may be able to keep them this summer if he brings in some positive signings other wise season after next might be one of the worst for the club if we lost 3-4 of our best players!
young_jonah
Nice positive post young J! I think we need to look at the bigger picture, players will move on BUT Gabby, Young and Barry are first on the team sheet every week, which they wouldn't necessarily get at other teams. It's down to them to get us into Europe after their crap performances against Sunderland, Boro and Fulham. Players need to take on responsibility, they're paid well enough ffs. With Davies back, I'm looking for us to get 3-4 good signings. A goalkeeper and a right back are priorities.

On a more serious note: Targets: Jussi Jaaskelainen (makes total sense), Doyle and Kitson are others; but it will totally depend on who gets relegated. These are the players we're in for in my opinion. Right back: Hoyte maybe, Aresenal are due to spend big. We need 5/6th to get the slightly better quality.
tarzan
Looks like the Jaaskelainen link has surfaced again. Would definetely be better value for money (as he's free in the summer) than Carson..
delirium
You know, I'd like to see us bring in Kevin Nolan from Bolton if at all possible. Always rated that guy, and would love to see him in a Villa shirt.
glensider
Not so sure about Jaaskelainen delirium. Personally I'd like to see us go for a younger keeper, if as expected, MON decides against pursuing a deal for Scott Carson.
