O'Neill Wants Storming End To Season

Martin O'Neill is in fighting talk asking for Villa to win their final five games of the season and to end on a real high. I had a night out that ended on a real high once, hmmm, happy days.

Villa face Derby County (away), Blues (home), Everton (away), Wigan (home) and West Ham (away).

The Villa boss told the official site that catching Everton is 'probably a fanciful notion' but if we do we'll have to win all five games.

If we did, it would put us on 67 points for the season, O'Neill continued: 'If we could post that number of points which would be phenomenal, we'd give ourselves a chance. We've got to finish ahead of the pack that's around us to have any notion about qualifying for Europe - even if it's through the Intertoto.'

He also says the performance against Bolton has restored their belief and confidence. Although in a warning to the players he says there can be no further slip ups following what he called 'disappointing' performances v Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

win all 5 and i reckon we will finish fifth- everton have very tough fixtures and beating them would reduce the gap to 5 points in itself. i very tall order, but if we are at the start of a good run then you never know. Can someone please tell me: will villa get in to the intertoto cup if we finish 7th behind pompey?

we will if pompey didn't apply, which i don't think they did.

I think if pompey win the fa cup then yes as they obviouslsy don't need the intertoto spot but the extra uefa spot goes to cardiff not the league, or so I understand

If Cardiff win the FA and Pompey are runners up Pompey will still get the FA cup Uefa place as Cardiff can't qualify through an English competition. Therefore, if we finish in 7th, behind the current top 6, we will get the intertoto place. I know the FA have said some bollox about Cardiff "might" still qualify for Uefa through the FA cup but it's really not up to them, the rule about qulifying through the competition of another country is a Uefa rule, not an FA rule. Uefa have said that if Cardiff win The Cup, they might give them a "wild-card" entry. This can not be at the expense of an English team, if it were it would not be a "wild-card" entry. All this is immaterial as Pompey will win and take the Uefa spot leaving us the masters of our own destiny regarding the inter-two-bob.

cheers people. to be honest i would be delighted with the intertoto cup. its only 1 round to qualify through now, and the chances are we would be drawn against Myklyvirov Vaschchuckr from Lithuania, or a team of equal quality and vowels. blackburn have liverpool A man utd H then pompey A next, and man city are not playing well so by my reckoning, we have an awesome chance of europe!!!!!! sorted.

We need to really focus now, because points are definitely there to be won, but just as easily, theres some tricky games in there, and we have to be at the top of our game. Derby wont be easy for starters. Its not the cert that many expect.

The Inter-Toto definitely looks to be our best if not only hope of competitive European club football next season. Its not going to be easy to catch either Everton or for that matter Pompey, so as of right now it looks as if we're shooting for seventh.
