Should Villa Sign Peter Crouch?

Our latest poll asks, amid rumours that Peter Crouch will be heading for a Liverpool exit this summer (with Portsmouth being strongly linked at the moment), whether we should nip in and sign him again?

In other brief news the Daily Mail are claiming that Liverpool are now at the head of the queue for supposed long time Villa target Jose Boswinga. The report says Man Utd are also tracking the Porto right-back.

The Daily Star say that Barcelona have put Thierry Henry is up for sale. Newcastle, Spurs, Manchester City, West Ham and sadly not Villa have all been linked! Hmmm, nice to dream...!

He is a vastly improved player from when we had him last time and he has a very nice habit of scoring. He would also have a point to prove after being a major victim of the liverpool rotation policy. He also knows a lot of the players and loved it when he was at Villa before. Wouldn't be a bad signing and surely would be a MON style signing?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO !!! For the same bloody money we can sign someone better ! We already have one gangly useless ***** upfront. We DON'T need another
crosswesleyanchapel
Yes, to keep the mucky Geordies off him ;)
marron
Yes he is welcome back for the £2mil we sold him form not sure about buying someone for £6mil, selling him for £2mil and then buying him back for £8mil. At that price, no thanks, but at £2-4mil yes please
young_jonah
No, he is coming to Pompey, again.
storagematt
Well, i hate the idea that we've wasted so much money on Crouch, the initial 6mil we paid pompey was too much, then O'Leary the knob sold him for 2mil, only for him to be sold for 10 next time around...We'd be looking at paying around that mark again to get him back...we'd be a laughing stock. However, i can't help but think that every time i see Crouch i'm impressed, he's just such a good player, and not just "for a big man". I'd like to see Crouch with us, but i'd sooner have another bundle of energy type striker, like Defoe, but obviously not Defoe...what is that guy Saviola who used to play for Barca doing? He seems to be up for sale every season.
AstonMartinOneill
Saviola is at Real Madrid but has been put up for sale on the transfer list
marron
I would say go for him and if you can get Boswinga too then you've improved your squad a lot. Boswinga is great right back!
Fan of Blues
i don't think we should buy crouch. no reason really, just a gut reaction. there are plenty of others out there worth a sniff. maybe we need more ambition in who we're looking at.
leftfoot
crosswesley.... are you refering to big john?
bobbyfett
Would be a good squad member. I think 8mil in the current climate would be a fair price. He does have a habit of scoring useful goals, and that we could use. But then, is he going to be doomed with the same inability to find the net that all big name strikers who come to VP seem to have? It's a gamble.
johnnyuk
So Villa can afford to match Crouch's £80,000-a-week-plus wages?
The Real Neil
neil points out the obvious reason why he wont be back at villa park. barry and carew must be our top earners on £50k per week. were not going to smash our wage structure for crouch.
Stig
Stig - if they are on £50,000-a-week that will be including bonuses, too. Crouch's is basic pay. And with Sol Campbell earning £90k-plus each week at Portsmouth, it's hard to see him moving to VP.
The Real Neil
The deal to Pompey is done and dusted (Sunday People 6 April)
eastneydave
eastneydave, i work for the birmingham mail, dont believe everything you read! on saturday the mail said we are in for lennon and huddlestone from spuds. that probably wont happen!
bobbyfett
It will depend solely on how he finishes the season. He wants to stay at Liverpool, but Rafa likes to play one up front for some of the big games (i.e. Torres). I think Newcastle will get him for silly money. Personally I think you should never go back(It's like a six pinter bird you keep kopping off with, as there are limited options)
tarzan
yeah i like crouchy good player, improved a lot , shame we still dont have him, would of been brilliant this season
krisvilla
Quality Tarzan........We won't get anyone half decent unless we get into Europe. Even then top players want to play Champs league and Crouch is worthy.
Villan444
Liverpool will be keeping Crouch.
col8
once we have bought the other six or seven we really need then yes, he is a good player who can play at the highest level.
Waldorf
Why would Crouch join us? He's going to play in a Champs League semi! "Liverpool are leading the chase for £8m-rated Porto right-back Jose Boswinga, with Manchester United and Aston Villa also keen on the Portugal international." Who will Jose pick?
tarzan
If we sign Crouch, we will see more of the long ball. No thanks!
Nigel-not-Reo
Tough one this, What would happen if our team had Carew, Harewood & Crouch? I could see us playing only one way and I don't think it'd be too attractive
neilav182
against popular opinion, crouch is useless when it comes to the long ball game - he just cant head the ball! aparasntly the deal is already done for him coming to pompey - although that is almost certainly a rumour, as harry has admitted that he would be after him if he came available, not that w had bought him. but would you really be too impressed with martin o'neil if he let two (england international) strikers slip away to pompey?
pompeycarpet
Good player, proven scorer and streets ahead of Carew
Denis_B
No! No! No! No! A definite NO to Crouch and/or Robinson. Otherwise feel free to splash some cash Martin.
glensider
Totally disagree Denis_B. Purely opinion I accept, but Crouch would offer us nothing that JC doesn't.
glensider
Have to agree on current form I think Crouch would score twice what JC would. Crouch seems to have a real hunger for the ball, Carew I'm not so sure. He has the assets but not sure he is using them at the moment. I remain to be dazzled.
