O'Neill - Villa Were Scintillating

Now that was more like it!

Martin O'Neill said after the 4-0 win that Villa were terrific and at times scintillating and from his comments on the official site, he seems a very relieved and happy man(ager)

The Villa boss said:

'I was delighted with that. I thought the performance was magnificent. It was really important to get the first goal and that was something we set out to do. It's been far too long at Villa Park since we got the first goal - I think it was Reading back in January. But while that was important, I thought our overall performance was really terrific. I think the crowd were treated to some scintillating football and that today was us more or less back to our best.'

Adding he was also pleased we kept a clean sheet, first in 18 games I believe: 'We also kept a clean-sheet for the first time in ages and I was pleased with everyone. We had a little spell just after half-time where we had to defend stoutly and maybe we got a wee bit of luck once or twice. But just as Bolton felt they might be coming back into the game we got a magnificent second goal and took the game away from them.'

He also pinpoints Gabby and Barry adding, 'I also thought Stiliyan Petrov did very well indeed, but there were plenty of impressive performances and there's a bit of a buzz again around the dressing room.'

well played petrov, made passes that others dont see, and balanced the midfield up well.

Petrov played one of his better games for sure, but if anyone other than Barry wins the man-of-the-match poll I think it would be a travesty. Our captain fantastic was all over the pitch last night (in a good way) and could have quite easily bagged himself a hatrick of goals and assists. He was a class above everyone else on that pitch IMO.

Just a thought, but when we do a MOTM vote, why don't we make it a bit more realistic by limiting some of the choices - i.e. clearly in yesterdays game it shouldn't be anyone other than a choice out of Barry, Petrov, Young, Bouma, and at a stretch possibly Laursen.
YatesyVillain
That second goal has to be one of the best scored at Villa park in years - reminiscent of Big Fat Ron's style of football when at its best

I'm curious, it doesn't bother me, but who is it that votes or Carson for MOTM after every game.
Carlosio
Carson? Well it could be :oP
Villain Of The North
Scored two, made two, only one player in the running surely? Mind you credit where credits due Petrov played very well, and as anyone who's read my threads will realise, thats not an easy thing for me to say!
Waldorf
Waldorf I love your salads, Petrov will I beleive top the MOTM award he was that good.

'Scintillating' is a little bit over the top Martin. Lets not get carried away here. Good performance/result, but still some areas to be concerned about.

carlosio, i think its benitez, trying to justify 10m for a ***** keeper!

LOL, col8. Thanks a lot! :-)
Fan of Blues
Agree Col8. For once, Stilyan really looked the real deal.

Megson looked glum today. Spent the entire game ranting and raving. They look doomed.
