New Keeper For Next Season

Imavillan asked, and you voted and the results are.....

A resounding vote of no confidence for the keepers currently on our books is probably the polite way of saying how the results went.

Scott Carson 11%
Stuart Taylor 2%
Tommy Sorensen 1%
Jussi Jaaskelainen 8%
Ben Foster 25%
Brad Guzan 5%
Paul Robinson 17%
Boaz Myhill 5%
Artur Bourac 25%
Somone else 1%

So if money allows our first choice goalies would be Ben Foster and Artur Bourac who each took between them 50% of all votes cast.

Interesting that 5% went for former youth and reserve keeper Myhill. I remember eyebrows were raised when he was let go.

But it looks like the days, in fans eyes at least, of Sorensen (too much whinging and not enough performance), Taylor (never really did too badly but failed to establish himself as first choice) and Scott 'the new Calamity' Carson are over.

Fair enough Carson received 11% of the vote, 4th highest but I wonder how many people would've voted in his favour IF the fee talked about had only been £2-3 million and not the rumoured £10 million?

Anyway, I'll stop rambling.

New Poll which will go up shortly is simply:

Villa v Bolton will:
win
lose
draw
who knows this is Villa!

I'm going for option 5.

I went for Boaz, cause Ben Foster is Man Utd's number one next season, Robbo will probably stay at Spurs, Jussi is too old now and as for Guzan and Boruc they have not played in a league of this quality, whereas Boaz has played in the English leagues albeit all but the top division and has been fantastic in an overachieving side. Plus he still owes me that fiver!!!

From what I have seen, the truly world-class keepers are all somewhat crazy. They all have that supreme confidence in themselves that they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof, even if they just let in a soft goal. They all think that they are bigger and badder than John Wayne and cooler and Steve Earle. I don't think this mindset is teachable, some are just born with it. That said, I don't think any of our current keepers have it.

Who is west hams or tottenhams reserve keeper...that is who we will end up with. :(

...and signed on the last day of the window for that last minute suspense thriller.

I read that Arsenal are looking at Guzan now.

Me too
Bosko-Macedonia
on the topic of keepers. if MON isn't in for Carson come summer, why does he still play him? Taylor has to be worth a run, eh? the gooners apparently r looking at Guzan as well.
leftfoot
I think Carson has it written into his loan contract that if he's available, he has to play. I don't think MON could drop him even if he wanted to
Geordie_Villa
if thats true geordie, that is a phenomenally stupid thing to do
ric112
All our keepers aren't good enough. We do need a keeper of quality.
lukemarson
I believe we did the same with Schmeichel, but the OS did an interview with Stuart Taylor and he said he would imagine Carson had a clause where he had to play if he was available. Ridiculous from our point of view, particularly as we paid a loan fee for him
Geordie_Villa
We need two keepers, one for immediate first team duty, backed up by a younger individual who can push for a starting place despite his lack of years/experience. No more loans please, and no Paul Robinson!!
glensider
Agreed with the 2 keepers Glensider, If we can get Carson for 4mil and a more experienced keeper that we be great. And I reckon Geordie is right on this, Fraizer Campbell has the same clause at Hull City. He was a little poor at the start but he is now playing really well, so worked out in the end, Carson has only 6 games left to prove himself.
young_jonah
6 games to prove himself? guess we'll end up with another Berger if he does. By that i mean a total waste of space based on a few good matches
TuBBz
A new keeper? We need a fairly good overhaul of the defence. We have gone from having the 6th best defence to the 10th, already conceding more goals this year than last year.
