Carew Back For Saturday - Phew??

Carew Back For Saturday - Phew??

According to the official site John Carew should be fit for Saturday's game against Bolton.

{sarcasm mode on}Thank goodness for that, I don't know what we'd have done without his never say die, shoot on site performances {sarcasm mode off}

Carew, who came off v Manchester United (although to be fair, there were a good few who didn't actually realise he was on the pitch) with a groin strain, is apparently feeling better.

MON said he is 'very optimistic' that JC will return saying he felt 'a million times better' by Monday.

Adding, 'He wants to play and he understands that sometimes you just get on with it. He's prepared to do that and feels very positive about playing on Saturday. John is a very important player for us and we're trying to use his experience to help the younger players alongside him - Gabby, Ashley Young and Shaun Maloney.'

JC has 9 goals this season, three of them coming during the Newcastle game. If he used his size, strength and speed, he could be on 20. What he lacks at the moment is aggression and sometimes it looks like he also lacks any interest at all.

What do people make of Big JC so far? For me he has the potential to be a total menace but rarely seems to take up the chance. On Saturday v Man Utd a few times he was nowhere near the box for the ball to be passed to him. Something hasn't clicked, is it the lack of service or a lack of something else?

Or too much of Alesha Dixon! lets face facts here, new relationship, the guy is probably absolutely knackered, can we blame him? give it 6 months to settle down and his energy levels should go back up : )

The bloke is so big and so should be more aggressive. He seems like he is scared of hurting opposition players. Sometimes you just want him to barge through a couple of defenders and see him come out with the ball the other side and thump the ball home. With the penalty against the geordies we know he has got the power but he doesn't use it enough.

yeah Carew is a weird one isn't he. He is a lot like most of the strikers we bring in at villa. In theory, and on their day, they are can be awesome - but on other days they bring to mind a certain horse like animal. Hows that well known phrase go... "the games not over until Baros has missed a sitter."

He's a good player and the best we've got, if we used him properly then he would be a bigger asset to us. We are a better team with him than without. He is targeted by the refs as most of the decsions go against him even when it is obvious the defender is the culprit. Players like Gabby should use him more. I feel Gabby has been the biggest letdown, how he has warranted an England call up is beyond me. He has all this pace but doesnt use it to full effect.

Perhaps I'm nit-picking here, but for such a big guy, JC struggles with the slightest knock. As others have so rightly said, on his day he's a huge plus, but sadly those sort of days are few and far between.

I'm going to throw this out there and agree with PaulG. I think gabby has just been terrible. I recall Arsenal was interested in him and ever since I heard that rumor he's been walking around like his ***** don't stink. Villa lack a sense of urgency sometimes. Few players on our team put everything they've got into the game. Put Harewoods determination in Carew and you've got yourself a 20 goal a year player.

No wonder he is scared of being to aggressive, already this season he has been penalised one of the most amount of times for really soft fowls. Also with referees coming down hard on anyone who so much as touches another player it is hard for anyone to play with aggression.
