MON & Petrov On Must Win v Bolton

Martin O'Neill has admitted the weekends clash against struggling Bolton Wanderers is a must win game.

Villa have lost three in a row v Sunderland, Portsmouth and Manchester United and the Villa boss says we've got to put that right this weekend to stand a chance of European football.

He told avfc.co.uk: 'Though we lost at Manchester United, results for the most part went our way at the weekend, so we still have plenty to play for. We've got six games to go and we need to get back to winning ways - starting this weekend. I wouldn't even start to talk about the Derby game. We have got a massive game against Bolton - an absolutely massive game. We have to win. It is as simple as that. We have to find a way to win the game, and it doesn't matter how.'

Meanwhile Stiliyan Petrov says there will be no favours shown towards former Villans Gary Cahill, Jlloyd Samuel and Gavin McCann who return to Villa Park for the first time since joining the Trotters.

He says that Cahill has been 'a rock' for them adding, 'I notice he even captained the team in the UEFA Cup. That was a great honour for him and it shows how much they think of him. Gary never let Villa down when he was here and he only moved on because he wanted regular first-team football.'

He also says that Jlloyd has been plagued with injuries stopping him make the sort of impact he can 'but he's a quality full-back and I know he's one to watch going forwards.'

And on the former Mr Ronseal (did exactly what it said on the tin) he added: 'Gav was hugely popular here with the players and fans alike. When we played at the Reebok earlier this season several of us went out for a meal afterwards to celebrate the birth of his daughter. It was great to catch up with him then and I'm sure there will be some banter on and off the pitch next Saturday. One thing's for sure - it will be another tough game and we've found to our cost how difficult it can be to play struggling opposition.'

3 points on Saturday then two local derbies in a row, first Derby away and then Blues at home. Tasty month!

It's shocking really, we have both let Liverpool get away with it with no wins in 3. Hope both teams turn it around and finish 5th and 6th now.

Yeah me too Mike, you can have 6th and us 5th. Cheers. ;-)

I think we have to balance things here, I suppose that's what you get if you shell out £24m on a class striker and another £19m on a midfielder. In the end class will tell over the full season. Those guys would not have joined us in a million years as we don't have CL - Hoss these are the cynical factoids! We are dealing in the bargain basement unless we can get lucky with a Berbatov, Elano or other gem.

Despite the fact we have 1 striker left, and 3 midfielders, i think we have enough gap to finsih above villa now. Pompey are a major threat though

It will depend largely on desperation, both teams desperate for three points for very different reasons. Up to the manager to make sure the season finishes on a high, 6 games left and he has to re-start the season.

Good fighting talk from Messrs Petrov and O'Neill, but now lets see these words translated into deeds. All too often we state the obvious to the media boys, then make ourselves look complete idiots out where it really matters.

petrov always comes out with these statements then prances about on the pitch with no fight!! im not a big fan where is that player that made his debut vs west ham?? yes next 3 games we absolutely need 3 wins especially over blues!! does anyone knw if pompey win cup does intertoto then go 7th??
Mose21
Boring,, just win the game!

Not too sure how it works Mose21, but I think we'd better hope that Pompey win the Cup, otherwise they'll surely apply for Inter-Toto entry.
