'If It's Football, It's Vital'

O'Neill on United loss (AUDIO)

If 4-0 is an emphatic scoreline showing a one-sided encounter, then this certainly doesn't fit into that category.

Few can argue that Man United were worthy winners at Old Trafford, with Cristiano Ronaldo opening the scoring with an outrageous flick and setting up the other 3, but a depleted Aston Villa weren't just lambs to the slaughter.

Shaun Maloney should have pulled one back when he somehow steered wide when one on one with the visitors' best chance but in appalling weather they had no answer to United, who have now fired in 10 goals without conceding in their last four Premier League matches.

Speaking after the game, Villa boss Martin O'Neill said he had no complaints over the result, admitting his side were beaten by a 'class act' on the top of their game.

Well beaten. What a great pity though that we couldn't round off our trips to the supposed 'Big Four' with another encouraging performance/result, as was the case at Stamford Bridge, Anfield, and The Emirates. Personally I thought we were poor, no match for United, and we were lucky it was only four-nil. The game showed us that we still have loads to do before we can compete with the Manchester Uniteds of this world. MON can say what he likes about some positives coming out of the game, but I know what I saw. We were never in it.
