Cahill Looking For Good Reception

Cahill Looking For Good Reception

What sort of reception will you give Gary Cahill?

I'll give the lad a good reception, like a few other players I think he should still be a Villa player and can't understand why, with one of the smallest squads in the league we allowed him to leave!

The former Villan, now plying his trade at Bolton returns to Villa Park for the first time next Saturday since he was sold and the former academy graduate says he isn't sure what sort of a reception he'll get.

He said, 'Do I think I will get a good reception when I come back to Villa Park? I would hope so but you never quite know. I didn't leave on bad terms or on a sour note so it would be nice to think I'll get a warm welcome. It might have been different if I'd have gone to Blues - I don't think that would have gone down too well. If I'd gone to Blues, I'd be able to give a definite answer about the reception I'd get going back to Villa Park.'

Adding, on the official site: 'I'm looking forward to it but it will be strange. I think it will feel more like a practice match because I'm that used to playing with all the Villa lads.'

He also says he had to think whether to take the move or not, 'You have to do what's best for yourself and I decided it was best if I left Villa for Bolton and not Blues. It was the biggest decision of my life and I had to make a choice that I thought would benefit my career. It wasn't easy and I gave all the opinions lots of thought but deep down I knew I had made the right choice and I've no regrets about it.'

Not all former Villa players get a welcome return but I'm sure Cahill will, especially when you think back to 'that' goal against the Blues!

Just don't score against us Gary, otherwise we might change our minds!!!!

He has done a wonderful job up there giving away penalties at will. I have always disliked the Bolton we have seen in the EPL so, for that goal and getting Bolton relegated I'll give the lad a good reception.

He should never have been sold. Right now he would be in the team on merit. The situation I feared happening at the beginning of the season is upon us, with Davies and Gardner injured and Knight clearly not up to the task, we are just about blown out. I'm beginning to dread the results the next few matches. Maybe its because of experiencing the miseries of the Ellis years that my high expectations have gone out of the window. If we can't beat Fulham, Sunderland and Boro were is our next win coming from? OK so I'm a miserable old sod, sorry.

So, here we have the classic reason every team has one man who calls the shots and carries the can: every player you care to mention - either Villa, potential Villa, or ex-Villa - has his supporters and detractors. Villa fans don't agree with each other, and you can't run a football team by committee, therefore you support the team selected by the guy who is currently running it. Criticise, yes - we all have the right to do that - but we shouldn't pretend that any of us know better. There isn't any 'better' - only an opinion.

He'll get a good reception, if only for 'that' goal alone.

Surely though, all three ex-Villans will get a reasonable, if not ecstatic reception. All served us well. We've moved on, so have they. Good luck to 'em, as long as they dont play major roles in inflicting a defeat upon us!!
