Villa To Have Acorns On Shirts?

Villa To Have Acorns On Shirts?

According to the News of the World Aston Villa are set to forgo up to £2million and instead put Acorns children's charity on their shirts next season.

This follows a report in the Birmingham Mail by Bill Howell - who for some reason which is beyond me seems to be fed inside information way before other press, obviously the old boys network still operates at Villa, hopefully that will end soon - who hinted this might be the case.

Great gesture if it is true, would also be lovely to be able to buy the replica shirts without any sponsorships on as well, watching the Villa Youth in the FA Youth Cup earlier this month just illustrated how fantastic the tops look without the writing across them!

That would be a fantastic gesture from Villa. In effect providing £1-2million in advertising for Acorns. Kinda puts paid to the conspiracy theorists reckoning we are short of cash. Unless...... it's a 'cheap' marketing ploy to try to give the impression that we have money. Like Ellis but more sneaky and cynical. IT's easy to twist stuff init and its why I don't believe the conspiracy theorists

totally agree jongekki, very easy to twist good intentions into bad. Would be a great gesture as far as I'm concerned!

Can't see how anyone can twist this one, Childrens hospice on shirt, rather than a multinational intent on profit, absolutely fantastic decision, shows the rest of the clubs in the EPL up, a moral victory for the worlds finest!

Although it is clearly a fantastic gesture, do we really have the financials to be doing this......There will be a motive for this and i think it is that we cant get a good enough sponsership deal yet so we are having Acorns for a couple of seasons untill we get into Europe and our profile has increased worldwide and then we will have a massive ten year type sponsership deal worth millions......just my opinion, but I just cant believe that a club of our standing (as in mid Table) would be able to just give up on getting money from their major partner without there being some sort of end to the means............................................................and FEAR as for Bill Howell getting the stories first, my girlfriend works in the press office for a championship club and it is common practice that the local journalists get stories before anyone else to keep them sweet, there wont be a club in the country that doesnt do this, you have to keep the media on side and info is the best way to do that

2 mill is a drop in the ocean seeing they get 60 for just being in the prem. Barca did Unicef for free, not sure Acorns is so well known but superb gesture and better than having some crappy mobile phone company or gambling syndicate all over our lovely shirts. CONGRATS TO THE BOARD

If £2m is a drop in the Ocean - yet we couldn't afford diarra's wages - wrong priorities I think.
