Villa's International Players

So who played for their international teams last night?

The following were in the squads:

Gareth Barry (England v France)
John Carew (Norway v Montenegro)
Stiliyan Petrov (Bulgaria v Finland)
Martin Laursen and Thomas Sorensen (Denmark v Czech Republic)
Wilfred Bouma (Holland v Austria)
Olof Mellberg (Sweden v Brazil)
Shaun Maloney (Scotland v Croatia)

However only four started.

Gareth Barry put pay to any suggestions that he couldn't partner with Owen Hargreaves and put in a fine display v France in our unfortunate 1-0 loss!

Olof Mellberg played the full 90 mins as Sweden went down 1-0

John Carew scored for Norway (doesn't he always?) who lost 3-1 to Montenegro.

Thomas Sorensen played 90 mins and Martin Laursen played the first half in Denmark's 1-1 draw v the Czech Republic.

Shaun Maloney started for Scotland and played 72 mins in their 1-1 draw v Croatia.

Wilfred Bouma came on as a sub at half time in the topsy turvey game that saw Holland go down 3-0 only to win 4-3.

Meanwhile Craig Gardner featured for the England U21's in their 0-0. In an article on the PFA's site, they say he 'once again gave an accomplished display on the international stage.' Adding, 'We are all sure he has a massive future ahead of him at club and international level alike.' Full article: Click Here

Wish Barry was that good for us every week but he thrives on playing with people who are also comfortable on the ball which we haven't got a lot of, Nige, Mellberg, Laursen, Zat even Gabby as he just likes to get his head down and run at top speed (although he has got better recently.)

Stiliyan Petrov (Bulgaria v Finland-2:1) 90min ;)

Gareth Barry should be playing for a top 4 team. He is sooooo under rated. Real quality.

Since Delaney's injury, we at Wales have no Villa players.

These pointless friendlies come at a most inconvenient time, the most important part of the domestic programme. Are they really needed? Capello, Burley etc might say they are, but thats for purely selfish reasons.

"Since Delaney's injury, we at Wales have no Villa players" - thats a strange posting welshboy78. I think its fair to say that all who are members of this site are well aware of that. Gareth Barry - Welsh sounding name though. Isn't that good enough?
