Spurs and Villa To Swap Keepers?

This should get the reactions flowing!

Villa, according to The Mirror - the bastion of all things true in football rumours... (cough cough) - have linked us with none other than Spurs and England keeper Paul Robinson.

Villa were linked with the England No1 during the David O'Leary reign but he ended up moving from Leeds to Tottenham, but now according to the paper, Martin O'Neill will pay anything up to 5million to secure his services.

I must admit, I think he is a far better keeper than our current on-loan (from Liverpool as if you didn't already know) keeper Scott Carson who seems to be unable to command his box, much like the criticism levelled at Thomas Sorensen.

Robo has certainly had his share of high profile errors this season but then, what keeper doesn't go through that? Anyone remember some of David James mistakes? Yes, me too but he is still the best keeper in the league!

Funny that we should be linked to Robo because my information - and it is only a rumour, not concrete - is that Spurs are willing to pay the 10million that Liverpool want for Scott Carson and that he will be White Hart Lane bound in the summer.

Usually I'd see that as a backward step for Villa, allowing a young, up and coming player to leave only to be replaced by another teams 'cast off'. However I can't say that Carson has impressed anyone that I've spoken to this season and so would it be such a big loss to see him not taken on permanently?

So what do you reckon?! Spurs fans, who would you prefer between your posts, Carson or Robinson?

I'd take Robo. Ok so he's had a dip in form but that is one reason you have a reserve keeper, to keep things going when the dip comes as it does for all keepers. Heck, even Schmiechal, the best keeper I've ever seen anywhere, had dips in form and made some momentous errors. As for James being the best keeper in the league, please!! He might well be the best English keeper but surely Chech is better not to mention a few other possibilities.

You're 'avin a laugh! If you are planning on a footballing suicide as a club - then surely you must go for Robbo! Carson is not a brilliant goalkeeper, but from what I have seen from him is an excellent shotstopper and can only get better. His "lack of command" in the area is an aspect of the game that he can improve but! Robbo has serious issues with crosses, kicking, positioning, narrowing down angles etc. Actually the only things he has no issues with are PIES!! Loads of them. Do not be silly and even contemplate this "trade".

Carson 10m Robbo 5m. Definatly take Robbo!!! To be honest if we were quoted the same price for both I would have a hard time choosing!!! I think under MON, Robinson would be the better choice to be honest!!!

AVFC, the dumping ground for spurs.... (who also happen to be higher in the league than you after monumental spending last summer) BIG THUMBS UP!

Football is a game of here and now, not yesterdyear as so many people were keen to impress on villa fans when that's all we had to cling on to before our rise in form.

Good for you, when things take a downturn for you I hope you remember that. We have qualified for Europe 3 seasons on the bike now so you knock yourselves out trying to do likewise.

Spurs have had investment for a lot longer than we have, coupled with managers who were willing to buy good talent... No one in the villa site will argue with that, or that you have a sound base... What most people i come across dislike about some select spurs fans is the arrogance you had with your rise to prominence after years of mediocrisy like many. Good luck in your success, enjoy it, but remember others when YOU rise back up and wanna come back with that arrogance.

There is no arrogance here Johnny I've done my time (and money) watching mediocrity. I'm enjoying being a Tottenham Hotspur supporter again, and if that means it upsets people when I remind them of our (Still Modest) successes of late the so be it, I won't apologise, I've taken real arrogance from elsewhere to know the real thing.

Having said all that I feel a kind of kindred spirit with The Villa and your aspirations and would wish you well (as long as its not at our expense eh).

(Spurs fan) Think this is just papers whipping up a story. From our point of view Ramos isn't the sort of manager to overspend on mediocre players just because they are English. Since Jan we've been linked with all manner of promising foreign keepers for half the price so think the Carson 10m is a no go. On the Villa side Robbo has shown he can be world class in the past but is prone to the odd error (or 12) but MON's famed player motivation has worked magic before and if it does again you could have a bargin on your hands (if this story is legit, although i have my doubts)

Their both crap and neither side would have anything to gain with either player in their side.I thought Spuds were signing Kameni anyway.

Why can't villa be inventive with signings, go crazy and buy Hildebrand...or at least someone to that effect...we only have scouts in this country it seems.

Now this 'rumour' concerns me. Robinson has shown all the faults also apparent in Scott Carson. There's surely a lot better out there? Robinson is in my estimation no better or worse keeper than Carson, both are currently suffering from a complete lack of confidence. While admittedly both are young and can supposedly only improve, at least thats how the script should go, I'd take Carson any day of the week if we can negotiate a reasonable deal.

I know for a fact that a spurs scout was at the arsenal game specifically to look at Carson and that he was impressed. He also told me that Robinson had and I quote 'lost it' so maybe we should stick and not twist!

Robbo over Carson deffo, Carson hasn't come out of his box all season, until the pompey game that is ! Then what happened? There has got to be a better option out there, but given the choice I'd take Robbo for 5 million bananas over Carson for 10!!!

Carson for 10Mil is simply bad business & i for one would question our manager if he paid that amount. We have all had a season to see what he can do & i am not that impressed at all.He simply cannot hold onto a ball & prefers to parry (usually into oncoming players) He is worth 3-4Mil at the most. And you can keep Fat boy Slim as well. I would rather have Chech from Chelsea any day of the week

No way will MON pay 10m for Carson though TuBBz, I dont think thats an issue. Both Carson or Robbo would be a huge gamble, and neither of them in my opinion are up to scratch. Maybe way down the line they might be, but then again, maybe not. There's surely a lot better out there?
