Four Villans Called Up For England

Fabio Capello has announced his latest England squad (for the friendly against France March 26 - groan, I hate friendlies!) and four Villa players have got the nod.

On loan keeper Scott Carson, Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry have all been named.

The squad is currently 30 strong but will be cut over the weekend.

It will be reduced on Saturday evening before the squad meet up at the Grove Hotel on Sunday night.

James, Carson, Kirkland

Bridge, Cole, Wheater, Ferdinand, Johnson, Terry, Brown, Lescott, Upson, Woodgate

Barry, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Jenas, Hargreaves, Cole, Young, Downing, Wright-Phillips, Bentley

Walcott, Agbonlahor, Owen, Rooney, Crouch, Defoe.

The time is fast approaching when you're only going to have to be a supporter of this great club, to stand a very good chance of being included in the full England squad. Congratulations to all four Villans. Well done lads.

Just hope Gabby can concentrate on Sunderland and not Engerland.

The villa have been linked with Wheater, he's MON's type of player.

yes, i agree with kris, only ashley deserved to be in there. but barry has been playing all capellos matches and he also owe gabby a match as he had already called him up for the match for swiss. BUT CARSON?? mystery man, rofl

yeah in hindsight give gabby a chance, he missed out cruelly when he got hamstring problem, think capello likes barry and agbonlahor, but Carson?????? shocker

i agree about carson, shouldn't be in the team. gabi's not scoring, but he's doing everything else. i'd have gone for green instead of carson, a good keeper behind a bad defence. kirkland is playing very well though. a good choice.

carson won't play , James will i'm sure, Green or even ben foster, we got a bit of a drop in english keepers at the moment

Ashley is only being kept out by an in form Joe Cole. Green and Hart must be gutted that calamity Carson has beaten them to it!!!!!

foster made some quality saves at the weekend, his kicking needs improvement, but that was the same as bossie, its why keepers use they're hands!

green was never going to make it into the team after conceding 12 goals in 3 games. carson shouldn't start for england, but keep him in the squad

If Foster had been fit for a longer amount of time than he has been this season I think he would have been pretty much established as englands no 1 by now.

Poor Gareth, plays well, consistently, quietly perhaps again this season, and now people think he's playing poorly. I'm sure 48 will back me up on that, can't think of anyone else really who would back me up. I know murph will argue, but while Gabby may not be scoring he has played well recently. Capello does not "owe Gabby a match", though he probably wants to see what he's liketo work with having mised out last time. And the only english keeper you could replace Carson with is Foster, and he's played one game. No doubt he's good, but you can't put someone in the International squad based on one game.

carlosio, its only that barry has high standards and he has not been at the races the past few games. He cant keep that standard up all the time. I'd rather put foster in goal than carson, foster been out for a year nearly and still did a lot better than carson who's been playing all season. Gabby has not been playing well so capello might be owing a call up for the reasons you jus stated, cos if players are picked on form, he is not

So? Stiliyan Petrov came into the squad against West Ham and had the game of his life. You can't put a player in their international squad based on one game, as it does not show players capabilities. Easy to say when you don't have 60 million people ready to scrutinise your every decision though I suppose.

I said that people thought Barry was playing poorly when he wasn't. You then promptly agreed with me having opened in this thread by saying "Gabby aint been playing well, nor barry." This is, in all fairness, a contradiction, and you can surely forgive me for thinking you meant exactly what you said (I should point out this isn't an attack on you, I disagree with everyone who says Gareth Barry has been poor).

He has been poor recently though, I dont know how you can disagree with that comment. If you have read peoples opinions he hasnt been at his best and unlike Barry has been giving away the possession a bit cheaply, but as i said players have a dip in form every now and again and thats life

ozanne I think you will find that Villa have a very strong core of English players, try looking at out squad list. Just because we have a foreign owner and are doing well it does not mean the we have a bunch of foreign mercenaries playing for us.

Correction kris, if I read peoples opinions I see that they think that he hasn't been at his best. This giving the ball away thing seems to be a myth too. I've not seen him lose the ball any more than he usually would. Equally, however, that's just my opinion.

21/03/2008 16:35:00

So you saying that he does lose the ball? cos thats all im saying he does, im not saying he does it anymore or anyless, I just see that he does give it away more cheaply than other players. But as you say its just down to opinion, and we seem to have very conflicting views about everything, if i say this is black you'd say its yellow, you get my drift?

kris, again I'm a little confused. I thought you were saying he was off form because he's losing the ball. I said that it isn't occurring anymore than it did in the past. You are now saying that is why is he now off form in your opinion?

Ironically I disagree with your final comment haha. It's just that the issue(s) that you feel most strongly on happen to crop up a lot. I do not disagree about Carson, though at the time I felt some were being unfair to him, and I still feel that way sometimes now. For instance, people blaming him for the second goal. I believe you agree with me on that.

Is ozanne park rangers alive and kicking? This guy seems devoid of any knowledge of the game outside of Loftus Road.
