Beattie, Bosingwa & Other Transfers

Beattie, Bosingwa & Other Transfers

Goodness me, there are a few transfer rumours flying around for Villa at the moment!

The Daily Express claim that Porto have turned down a £6m bid from Aston Villa for long term target, right-back Jose Bosingwa. The paper quotes club president Pinto Da Costa talking about the 25-year-old 'In the past year, Aston Villa revealed themselves to be an interested party, but we didn’t accept the proposal. He’s another of the players we intend to keep.' He also goes on to say that the rumours of a bid from Manchester United are wide of the mark.

Rumour rating? Not sure, looks like old quotes to me and would we be bidding now when the transfer window doesn't open until the end of the season? Not sure how these things work, maybe interest is expressed early?

Meanwhile another rumoured target, Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, is now said to also be on Chelsea's summer transfer target list. The 25 year old is said to be worth around £7.5 million.

Rumour rating? Pure speculation and column inch filling!

The Mirror today claim that Aston Villa might be lining up a move - once again - for James Beattie (collective groan?), currently plying his trade in the Championship with Sheffield United. Beattie was involved in a tug of war between Aston Villa and Everton with the Toffees winning, only to off-load him after a series of injuries and a lack of form ruined his time at Goodison Park.

Rumour rating? Surely this is just a wild rumour? If the 30-year-old couldn't make the grade for Everton, why would he for us? He has 15 goals this season in the Championship but maybe that is now his level?

And finally, Aston Villa have given a trial to Rotherham's young goalkeeper Mark Oxley. The Sunday Mirror claim that whilst others like Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City were pondering, Villa have swooped.

Rumour rating? Not seen anything on the official site about his arrival but that isn't to say it hasn't or isn't happening!

Oh hang on, I've found another one. Villa are once again being linked with former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan.

The Uruguay international, who is currently with Atletico Madrid, said in the Daily Star on Sunday: "I didn't get much of a chance in England, but if there is a chance to come back and the offer is really good, I'd think about it. I enjoyed living and playing in England, so it's still an option." They also claim he would cost around £15m.

Rumour rating? Who knows, who do you think I am, mystic mug? We were linked with him last summer as well, so possibly unlikely I'd think!

What on earth would James Beattie offer us, that isn't currently available, only better, at the club? He's snubbed us once, and since then we as a club have advanced, while his career has rapidly gone into reverse. Thanks but no thanks. Thats a definite none flyer.

The MON transfer window does not open untill two days before it closes (after all the good players have gone) so there is no point in speculating untill then.
