Milner Linked To Villa - Again!

News is fairly thin on the ground at the moment, apart from the match reactions and stats from last nights game obviously, but one report that did grab my eye was the suggestion in The Mirror that Villa are eyeing a swoop for James Milner.

According to the red top, Martin O'Neill is looking at an £8million bid for the right sided Newcastle midfielder in the summer.

The 22-year-old, so nearly our player last year when he was on the way down to sign before Freddie Shepherd called him back up to St James Park, signed a new contract last summer at Newcastle but the report suggests O'Neill is confident he can 'lure' him to Villa Park.

No quotes or facts to back it up but he is certainly the sort of tough player we could do with and was impressive when we had him on loan.

The Mirror also say we are after 18-year-old Bournemouth striker Sam Vokes.

Would be a great signing for you lot, Newcastle's best player in my opinion.

I've often said on here that he'd be my number one transfer target, nothing has changed.

Imagine how awesome it would be having Young on the left and Milner down the right.... Get him on board!
bazzah
Brilliant if we could get him. It would give us much better balance. Also saw a 'rumour' we were interested in David Bentley. Either Milner or Bentley (or both!!!!) would be great news, even if somewhat optimistic.

Not sure on this one guys, feel that Young will eventually come to live life on the left and that we may better off getting Downing when he inevitably changes his mind again..on formas we have seen he is quite the left sided player.
koolbill
We do not need Milner as our right sided winger. MON should play Wayne Routledge in the position. As noted in another web site he is low in confidence, the way to improve his confidence is to play in his prefered positon. MON keeps playing Gabby in that postion and it is not working.
MotoPhil
The Geordie's and England U21's best player by far. Sign him up. Our Player of the Season 2 years ago.

milner would be a brilliant signing, come homes james, come home!!!!!!!
Stig
yeh milner would be good signing, lets hope newcastle go down! be a lot easier to go get him

IF Milner has been that good why are Newcastle in the position they are in. What I have seen of him on TV is he will give you 100% commitment but cannot cross a decent ball. Think Newcastle would snatch are hand off if we offered £8 mil for him. He would be good squad player but not sure if we want to break into the Big 4 would I have him as 1st team regular.
MotoPhil
he carries the team from what i've seen, none of em want to play except him, it's like playing with a team full of petrov's
krisvilla
I'd take him and Charles N'Zogbia. I think he's been newcastle's best player this season. He's a full back who's quick and not afraid to take people on.

I am fairly certain that MON was trying to sign Milner during January and probably would have if the manager's position there hadn't been up in the air. That's why Routledge was bought late in January i.e. Plan B.

MotoPhil, as of right now, surely Wayne Routledge is no more than a calculated risk? Hopefully he'll work out by proving his worth, but we dont know that. James Milner would be a virtual guaranteed asset. All opinions I know, but I cant quite see how we could afford not to be interested.

glensider. The earliest we could milner to play for us is July in the intertoto, so yes routledge would be a gamble but nothing ventured nothing gained. He is not yet been on the bench, and as for Gabby and Barry they have been both outstanding for us this season, but for past several weeks they have not been at their best
MotoPhil
Both were conspicuous by their abscence on Wednesday night, Milner did OK for the Villa but MON must cast his net further and bring in known quantity and quality players. Time to stop picking up players who may or may not be bargains in the future.
