Villa's Sunday Transfer Gossip

Villa's Sunday Transfer Gossip

The Sunday football gossip relating to Villa today is very scarce but there are a couple of snippets that might be of interest!

First off The News Of The World are suggesting that Peter Crouch, a rumoured target of Villa, Portsmouth and Newcastle United, will refuse a new deal at Liverpool if the current boss Rafa Benitez remains in charge. However with such a terrible relationship with the owners of the club, Rafa looks to be a dead man walking unless he delivers the Champions League.

The People say that Villa are after Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard. They say that Middlesborough are also interested (another report suggesting Boro have £20million for Gareth Southgate to spend in the summer) and the price mentioned is £4million. Bullard spent time at West Ham and Peterborough but is better known as a Wigan player. Whilst there he made 145 appearances and scored ten goals from central midfield. Hmmm, not sure on this one, hardly a world class target is it?

And one that might annoy a few is the report in the Sunday Mirror that former Villa player Gary Cahill, now at Bolton Wanderers, might be called up into the England squad by Capello for the friendly against France later this month.

Finally according to the People, we are in the race, along with Newcastle and Arsenal, for St Etienne's Senegal striker Bafetimbi Gomis. According to the paper Villa had him watched last week and will join the bidding, expected to start at around £8million, if he decides he wants to move to the Premier League.

How old is Jimmy Bullard though? Thirty? Thirty one? Is he really the type of player we should be looking at? Looks good in the Fulham side, but who wouldn't? No, there must be better options out there.

I've always admired Bullard, kid's got spunk. Not sure he'd be the right fit for Villa though.

Lets make a serious attempt at bringing Jimmy Milner back to Villa Park. I know he's just signed a new long term deal at St James Park, but I cant help thinking the quality of player he could well become under St. Martin.
