Sorensen Set for Reserve Outing

3rd choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen (remember him?) is set for a rare appearance in an Aston Villa shirt as he starts tonight’s reserve team fixture.

The Danish international and last year's first choice keeper at Villa Park has seen his chances of competitive football completely spurned as manager Martin O'Neill put all his trust into the loan of Liverpool’s Scott Carson for first team goalkeeping duties.

Midfielders Wayne Routledge and Patrik Berger (remember him?) and Moustapha Salifou are the other experienced players in an otherwise youthful line-up to face Spurs Reserves at Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road ground this evening.

Villa Reserves Squad: Sorensen, Hogg, Earls, Lichaj, Lund, D.Bellon, Salifou, Routledge, Clancy, Y.Bellon, Berger. Subs: Bradley, Bevan, Forrester, Albrighton

really good goalie buthas there been a falling out. i think yes
mick66owl
Simply not good enough for a team chasing top six, the sooner he leaves the better!!! He will probably return to Denmark or play for Walsall next season cause he certainly is not good enough for this club and cant see too many Premiership clubs wanting to sign him, maybe he could join Rangers or Celtic, they are full players who are not good enough for the Premiership!!
young_jonah
Agree entirely but is young Scott ready for this role Y_J ? Good performance at the weekend but he hasn't exactly set the midlands alight.
Villan444
No but hes got all the time in the world to improve and he's certaintly shown promise in (some) games this season.
villabikes29
hasnt set the midlands alight? when he first arrived, he was THE top goalkeeper under DOL in the EPL. always ranked first on Actim GK list. he even had a good WC in 2006. this felling out with MON was a really bad move from Sorensen. im gonna miss him. one of the best Villa keepers ive seen, even more impressive then Carson.
Gruck
i aggree, i cant see for one minute how carson has been an improvement on sorensen........ IMO carson was at fault again for the goal at the emirates, as he was glued to his line !!
Adbo9
Attack me for saying this if you like, but I still believe Sorensen is a superior keeper to Carson and I have yet to see anything to make me change my mind. If anything, what I have seen has just confirmed my view!
The Real Neil
Night off for Taylor then!
The Fear
Can't understand why so many fans turned on Sorensen, he wasn't the most commanding but he is a good shot stopper. Sounds a bit like Carson now I come to think of it, although Carson is a lot younger and still learning.
The Fear
Fear - in my, personal, limited, own view, I would say that fans have turned on Tommy because it seems to be "you are either pro-Tommy or pro-MON". A situation has arisen where to praise Tommy you lay yourself open to accusation of being anti-MON. Just my view, though.
The Real Neil
Maybe The Real Neil. Not sure it is quite as clear cut as that but Tommy did make the mistake of crossing the manager and has been used as an example to others (along with Luke moore?) that you don't cross MON, especially not in the press.
The Fear
Rumours on another post Villa reserves were 3-0 down.....
col8
its not rumours anymore col haha. on the sorrenson topic. i really wish that MON would give him another chance and say to him "look, youve been stupid. but im gonna give you another chance. if you give me a cleansheet against boro, you will be my number 1 till the end of season" cant see it happening tho :(
Gruck
I am neither Pro nor Anti MON, he has my backing, although I find some of selection choices and transfers a little baffling at times. So my opinion of Sorensen comes from the fact that barring his first season at Villa I have been disappointed with the guy and would prefer to see us make £1mil on him than him go on a free like most our players do. He is not good enough for a top six team. Carson may have made mistakes this year but I am willing to bet he will go on to be a great keeper, its unfair to condemn a 22 player as not good enough, he is learning and could be one of those that we miss out on and goes on to become a great keeper.
young_jonah
Sorensen is a decent 'keeper (who would be good in a mid-table team or lower) with a big whingeing mouth. He was the starter in pre-season until he pulled his hamstring against Toronto. Stuart Taylor came in and did well. Sorensen needed patience and professionalism in working his way back. Instead, he complained to the media. He wanted the starting place put on a plate. If any 'keeper has been unlucky it's Taylor, not Sorensen.
gmvillan
Are people so petty that they would put others into a category of "pro" a certain person because they have an opinion? Honestly.....
gmvillan
A sad end to a Villa Park career. A shame that it all went so sour for him. A fine 'keeper, much maligned by some, but I always believed him to be one of the top five or six in the premiership. The sooner seasons end arrives and Thomas can move on to pastures new, the better for all concerned.
glensider
Only time will tell whether Scott Carson is going to develop into a top class keeper, but as of right now, I genuinely believe that Sorensen is the better keeper of the two.
