Villa Ace Makes Actim Climb

Aton Villa starlet Ashley Young continued his excellent campaign this weekend with a 53-point haul in The Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League, climbing six places in the standings into fifth overall.

The England international posted his best individual match score of the season along with the opening goal in the 2-1 win at Reading on Sunday.

It makes Young the third-highest ranked striker with 438 points, averaging 17 points per appearance for Martin O’Neill’s men.

O’Neill has 10 of his squad in the Actim Index top 100, with Martin Laursen, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry in the current top 25.

Analysis of all Premiership games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

Name/Team/Position/Match Score

Robert Green, West Ham United, Goalkeeper, 25

Joleon Lescott, Everton, Defender, 38

Nicky Shorey, Reading, Defender, 30

Anton Ferdinand, West Ham United, Defender, 29

Erik Edman, Wigan Athletic, Defender, 27

Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United, Midfielder, 40

Phil Jagielka, Everton, Midfielder, 31

David Bentley, Blackburn Rovers, Midfielder, 31

I never bother too much with these stats, You can see the good players if you watch the game. This stuff is for armchair supporters, spread betters and Sky. Would you chose Anton over Rio? Phil Jagielka over gerrard, lampard or Barry?

There aren't many midfielders i wouldn't choose over Lampard at the moment. I agree though, this stats are not as conclusive as they, or others, make out. I hate the Marlon movement, but he is a classic example. He has come on and changed two or three games for us in recent weeks, but that wont show up here if he didn't score or complete so many passes etc.

He's certainly having a good season is our Ashley, making a lot of folk sit up and take notice.
