To Keep Keeper Or Not To Keep Keeper

To Keep Keeper Or Not To Keep Keeper

Scott Carson has dropped a hint that he'd love to join Villa permanently in the summer but has to stop short of saying so as he is still a contracted Liverpool player!

The on-loan keeper, who has kept both Thomas Sorensen and Stuart Taylor out of contention this season, explains that his move isn't a 'done deal' and that it is just a loan deal until the end of the season although he also adds, 'any time from now until then they could make it permanent. It's down to all three parties.'

On where he would like to end up he says he can't really say because he is contracted to the Anfield outfit but adds, 'I like it at Aston Villa and I want to get settled for next season. But it's down to Liverpool, Aston Villa and myself to decide where I ought to be. There's not a lot I can do. I've got three years left at Liverpool and I don't know what Aston Villa are thinking. I don't know if there's anything else in the pipeline, we'll have to wait.'

What do you reckon, should we be taking him on permanently, do you think he has done enough to impress Martin O'Neill?

Our poll, run on 17 December 2007, asked whether you had been impressed with Scott Carson so far, the results were:

Yes, sign him up (58%)
Not good enough for £10m (29%)
Jury is still out (7%)
He is no more commanding than Sorensen was (3%)
He has been ok (3%)

Another more recent poll asked who you thought would be the first choice keeper next season, only 24% thought it would be Scott Carson.

Guzan, the American we missed in the window (46%)
Other new keeper (27%)
Carson -On a permanent deal (24%)
Carson - On a further loan (1%)
Stuart Taylor (1%)
Thomas Sorenson (1%)

He'll never be able to compete with Reina at Liverpool, so it's safe to say he will leave them very soon. Villa or not, that's another question.

not unless he vastly improves in the end of season games, he has not done enough for me. They showed jimmy bullards free kick, the ball was slightly off centre as it went in the goal and carson was blaming his wall with his hands in the air. No mate that was your fault you really are rubbish........ (watch him have a cracker today now ;-()

Respect due to Carson, but I tend to think he is definetely not worth £ 10M, and will krisvilla said, a £ 10M keeper would have stopped Jimmy Bullard's free kick...even my sunday league team keeper would have stopped it actually...UTV

After another shakey performance today, I'd say no way Jose, not at the pricess the press have spoken about anyway.

He's crap

Carson, to me, seems little better than Taylor so I reckon Guzan at a fraction of the cost it would seem we will have to pay for Carson, is a much better bet. IMO today's performance was not the sort that is expected from an England keeper.
24/02/2008 14:46:00
yep, and he still cant keep a clean sheet, which keepers are judged on, readings keeper had some good saves today. Carson could be a liability next season especially when we are in the champ league ;-)
24/02/2008 15:03:00
How can people talk about Guzan. Who has seen him play at Premiership level?
24/02/2008 15:04:00
think its the case of anyone can be better than mr indecisive, we got a good defence and we keep conceeding , the keeper needs to pitch in a bit
24/02/2008 15:12:00
We are on the verge of making Carson the next Robinson. I wouldn't pay 10m for what we've seen, not by a long way, but he made a few game-saving saves today. I can understand why they're not mentioned, as Keepers mistakes are far more memorable than any others, due too them being the last line of defence. It is infuriating, and he needs to cut them out, but managed to stop two of the looping Shorey freekicks from going ing, and everybody knows they are fiendishly difficult to deal with.
