Routledge Edging Closer To Start

Martin O'Neill has spoken to the official site about new signing Wayne Routledge who joined Villa from Spurs in January.

The Villa boss said of the winger:

'His fitness is improving, he's really getting into it and he's definitely got ability. I'm hoping that he would be forcing his way through. Now he knows he's got a battle on here, but he's shown a great old attitude, as he said he would do and he's very, very keen.' Adding, 'Obviously anything can happen in these 12 games, anything at all. So I'm pleased to have him and though he plays in a different position to Luke Moore, it's somebody else in here and that makes decisions a wee bit easier.'

'He's doing very, very well in training, but I wouldn't read anything into the fact he wasn't in the reserve side for Monday's postponed game against Chelsea. They'd trained very hard all week in Spain and we were able to get a fair amount of work in. So I just gave them the weekend off.'

Hopefully he'll get a few chances to show what he can do this season, although we do tend to keep new players on the bench for months first don't we?!

wish they'd hurry up and play him, I need a picture of him in a Villa top!!!

Sooner the better, the quicker he is on the bench the better.

Going by the recent success of Harewood and Davies, keeping new players waiting seems to work lol
adamavfc
I think we all remeber him at Palace where he was outstanding. Maybe not yet ready to start but it would be good to see him get on the park tomorrow.
Waldorf
By the sound of that we won't be seeing him anytime soon.
Saurat
No need to rush him. MON will know better than most when Wayne is ready for an appearance on the bench or in the starting line-up.

He could very well turn out to be a surprisingly good signing by MON, certainly if he can revive his Palace form then we could have got ourselves a bargain. Shades of Tony Morley I wonder? Lot of similarities.
