Should Villa Enter Inter Two Bob?

Should Villa Enter Inter Two Bob?

Vital Villa are currently asking, in a poll suggested by Still Skeggy, should Villa enter the Inter Two Bob cup just in case we don't qualify for Europe via the league position?

With Blackburn and Tottenham Hotspur already confirmed, would it not prove a decent safety net and give us another way to play Uefa football next season? I must admit I thought they had scrapped the comp but maybe they changed their mind or this could be its last hurrah?! Who knows? Indeed, who cares?

I remember Martin O'Neill saying he didn't fancy it last season but now he has had further time to settle the squad and get his system going, it will be interesting to see if he is still against the idea.

What do you think, as good a pre-season as any or a competition that makes the season too long for the players? Paul Merson used to say it was a great way to start the season and felt it got the team off to a flying start when the Premiership kicked off.

Must admit I enjoyed the inter games, always seemed better than pointless friendlies. Obviously it would be better to qualify finishing in the top six, but if not, why not go for it?!

I dont know, I'm not particularly keen on the idea. We did though draw decent crowds on our last excursion into the tournament, but I'm not so sure that its a good idea player/injury wise.

I agree with the Fear. Competitive games are better than meaningless friendlies. A good work out pre-season should we not qualify automatically for Europe.

if spurs win the carling cup, and the fa cup final has a team not in europe in it, only 5th will get a UEFA Cup spot. Thats some gamble if you don't apply

As far as pre seaeson goes, it gives the players better match practice and if they win it, gives them a boost in morale as well. As most of the squad will be sitting around picking their noses for most of the summer, due to Englands failure, they should all be well rested anyway!!

I think yeah at the risk of a team getting to the final outside the top 4. saying that though Villa will finish fourth and you can keep your poxy UEFA cup ;-) ... If Chelsea sorry I mean when Chelsea win the Carling cup doesnt that mean Spurs will go into europe anyway cos chelsea will finish 3rd?? Im getting reet confused with it all

The 'losers go into europe' rule only applies to the FA cup. If Chelsea win the CC the UEFA space will go to the league and not spurs

Carew and NRC have ruled us out of the fairplay place, so why not. We will have a huge squad by then after the summer spending spree ;)
