John Carew - Actim Player Of Week

Classy Carew

Big John is Actim player of the week

John Carew's second-half hat-trick kept Aston Villa in the hunt for a Champions League spot - and earned him the top score of week in The Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League.

Villa fought back from a goal down to thrash Newcastle 4-1, with the powerful Norwegian on target three times in 39 minutes - enough to earn him the highest score of the week (65) and the best individual score by a Villa player of the entire campaign so far.

The former Valencia forward leaps into the Actim top 100, climbing more than 50 places to move into 67th position, and is joined in The Actim Index team of the week by team-mate Wilfred Bouma (31), who set the ball rolling with the equalizer on Saturday.

Winger Ashley Young, one of 10 players from Martin O'Neill's team in the top 100, is Villa's highest-ranked performer in 11th position, with Martin Laursen (13th) and Gabriel Agbonlahor (17th) also highly placed.

Analysis of all Premiership games is taking place throughout the season and the players in the Actim Index Team of the Week are:

Name/Team/Position/Index Score

David James, Portsmouth, Goal Keeper, 21

Younes Kaboul, Tottenham Hotspur, Defender, 36

Jonny Evans, Sunderland, Defender, 32

Philippe Senderos, Arsenal, Defender, 31

Wilfred Bouma, Aston Villa, Defender, 31

Lassana Diarra, Portsmouth, Midfielder, 38

Phil Jagielka, Everton, Midfielder, 36

Dickson Etuhu, Sunderland, Midfielder, 31

Dean Whitehead, Sunderland, Midfielder, 29

Emmanuel Adebayor, Arsenal, Striker, 65

John Carew, Aston Villa, Striker, 45

The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player’s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

Have you got Carew and Adebayor's scores mixed up on the team of the week bit?
PTP
He has shown what he can do so now we must expect more from him regularly. Although he benefitted greatly from Harewood leading the line and putting himself about and it seemed to take the pressure off him to show what he can do, UTV

Good to see. Always special to see a Villan grabbing the headlines.
